Owner description: Serving as a royal residence and the site where the country's rulers governed Poland for five centuries (1038-1596), this castle is a symbol of the independent Polish state and today contains a priceless collection of 16th-century Flemish tapestries, considered to be one of the largest in the world.

“Beautifully presented history lesson”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

Wawel Hill is the birth place of Krakow, but beyond this, it is a place of great significance in the long history of Poland itself. The many buildings and fortifications, including the Royal Castle and Cathedral, are in excellent condition and certainly worthy of a visit of up to half a day.
The views from the top of the hill across the Vistula River and over the city itself are wonderful but for me, the archelogocial remains under the Palace were enough reason to visit.
We booked three tours: the Royal Apartments, the State Rooms and Lost Wavel (the diggings) and thoroughly enjoyed each one.

“Fairytale castle”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

Tried to visit the castle on our secong day in krakow and after climbing the hill to the entrance discovered it was closed till 12.30 as there had been some kind of security incident. Disappointed but did return next day and was very surprised to see the length of the queue for tickets to see the various parts of the building. To cut to the chase - best to buy tickets in advance as queueing in 32 degrees of heat for up to an hour or more is no fun at all. We had a limited time in the city so decided to see as much of the place as we could without waiting for the extra entrance tickets. Our fault for not checking in advance but didn't really expect it to be so extraordinarily busy. We did however manage to get tickets for the cathedral and cathedral museum for a smaller ticket office inside the castle grounds without too much of a queue so that was at least something. The castle itself is so pretty and the grounds are lovely and very extensive so it didn't feel too crowded, also there are plenty of facilities for something to eat or drink which is helpful. Don't miss it when visiting Krakow but be more organised than we were if you want to see the treasury and things.

“Impressive castle and grounds with varied prices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

The castle is situated around 10 minutes walk from the rynek and is an impressive building from every angle. Prices are mixed - there are over five different tours with a quota for each so you can pay for the one that suits your budget or desires. I chose just to walk around the grounds which was enough for me and still an impressive sight. Vast array of buildings in the castle make it an impressive way to kill an hour or two

“Most visited spot in Poland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

This is a must for anyone coming to the country. It has spectacular views of the surrounding area, as it is on a hill. The church is filled with interesting memorials. Don't miss the excellent gift shop and book store.
