Wawel Hill is the birth place of Krakow, but beyond this, it is a place of great significance in the long history of Poland itself. The many buildings and fortifications, including the Royal Castle and Cathedral, are in excellent condition and certainly worthy of a visit of up to half a day.
The views from the top of the hill across the Vistula River and over the city itself are wonderful but for me, the archelogocial remains under the Palace were enough reason to visit.
We booked three tours: the Royal Apartments, the State Rooms and Lost Wavel (the diggings) and thoroughly enjoyed each one.
