“Good hotel very close to the main market square”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

Stayed two nights. Requested a non-smoking double with a bath tub as some of the rooms advertised on the hotel website had bath tubs and others did not. We had a morning flight to Krakow and arrived at the hotel around 11am. There were no applicable rooms ready, and we left our bags at the hotel to do some sightseeing. Returning, we found the room was a non-smoking twin but did have a bath, so two out of three of our requests were met.

The room was large but the shower kept changing temperature unassisted and the complimentary Wi-Fi was practically non-existent. Don’t know if this was the room as there was better Wi-Fi reception in the lobby but for an apparently 5-star hotel, strong Wi-Fi signal is expected in all of the hotel’s rooms.

We bought some beers and intended to drink them in the room one night. We had to ring reception for a bottle opener to be brought up. The rooms should be each checked to stock one or it really defeats the purpose of offering those bottles that were in the mini-bar....

On our second night, while we were preparing to go out to see more of the city and dine, the housekeeper who had cleaned our room (very well though there was some dust on the pictures) knocked on the door and offered us sweets from a bowl she was brandishing. This was a nice touch not seen in other hotels I have stayed at.

Breakfast buffet was pretty good, serving a choice of cereals and Polish food (a variety of breads, cheeses and cold cuts) with fruit juices, coffee and tea.

Staff were very helpful and informative. Any questions about the hotel’s services or nearby sights were dealt with in a polite and comprehensive manner.

Overall, I would say the main points of staying at the Grand are the location (less than a minute’s walk from Rynek Glowny the main market square), the breakfast and the large size of the rooms (at least the deluxe twin room we had). The hotel would have received an even more positive review had the Wi-Fi worked and the shower been less temperamental.

Very nice hotel just in the middel of the old part of Krakow and close to all the historical places and buildings. The hotel in it self is a part of history and full of historical photos. It is possible to bring your car when paying for the parking.

This is a lovely old building with great charm and authentic 19th c character and the location, close to Krakow main square, is unbeatable.

It does rate itself as a 5 star, presumable based on the architecture, and because of this presumption I feel justified in marking the Grand quite harshly.

There are no facilities normally expected of a 5 star outfit, although a kettle was produced upon request.
The breakfast looked reasonable but the scrambled eggs and fatty bacon were cold and the novelty of cold vegetable soup and cabbage dumplings wore off after a couple of days. You can overcome this by ordering fried eggs rather than relying on the buffet.
I advised the staff that a two slice toaster is underpowered for so many guests.

The room was large but the bed was hard. the aircon/heating did not work. the location near to several night clubs and bars means that the noise of all night drunken revellers is significant. Take ear plugs and try to get a room facing the hotel interior.

Would I go back? Not at these prices.

Room Tip: Avoid street-side rooms if you want a good night's sleep - or join the drunks outside.

Beautiful old world charm. Lots of glitz, chandeliers, marble and opulence but poor to no air conditioning. The hotel was located a block from Cloth Hall and the Main Square. No need to pay for a more expensive hotel on the square because this location is close and away from the noise of the square. Lots of restaurants to close by as well as the train station and large contemporary mall.

Staff was excellent at meeting our needs. They would order us a taxi or a private car hire for attractions at a reasonable price and they arrived promptly. Make sure before you get in the cab that the driver will take a credit card. Our private car hire was to Auschwitz which was a couple of hours away. The driver took us into the attraction and showed us where to purchase tickets. He waited until we finished the tour and then drove us to Auschwitz II which was 2 miles away. The price for the private car hour was less than the tour on the bus with lots of others.

The room was spacious but the air conditioning was poor, however we could open the windows which made it much better. The pictures of the beds do not look comfortable but they were very comfortable. Staff was terrific. Breakfast was great.

Room Tip: If you can afford it I recommend the suite, because you have more windows to open because the air co...

We stayed for 3 nights-the staff are very helpful and the hotel linked transport excellent.

However be aware of the street noise if at the front of the hotel-late night revellers. The free wifi is patchy but you can pay for a better line which should not be the case in a 5 star hotel. The ensuite was functional and lacking extraction .

Breakfast about 4 star standard-decent buffet with some food to order.

Good location ,décor etc but not really 5 star.

Room Tip: Ask for inside room away from street noise.

Visited Krakow during EURO 2012 and stayed at the Grand Hotel. Decided i wanted to return to Krakow and stay at the the Grand. Recommended Krakow and the Grand to my daughter who had a very enjoyable stay last February and I returned in April bringing my wife. We both had a great time and she wants to return.

Room Tip: The hotel has a great location just down from the main square and as it is on the street in can be a...

In our opinion this hotel was more like a four star hotel. We had great expectations and was a bit disapointed. Breakfast was simple but ok, and you had to pay ekstra if you wanted freshly made juice, if they had any at all. The room was big and the matresses were good, but we are used to one big bed, not two separate beds standing close to each other. Nobody asked for our preference. We also missed a mirror in full size and the light in the bathroom was poor. No eveningservice in the room. No restaurant available at the moment. Location was very good.
