My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for two nights in February . The location is right in the middle of the old-town with dozens of restaurants, shops and bars all within walking distance of the hotel. The hotel itself reminds you of the old time European classic hotels of times past. There was a sense of elegance and sophistication that you can only get from something that has been around for a long time. Our room was large with high ceilings. The furniture was dated but clean and functional. The beds were comfortable and the linens were fresh and the blankets were very warm. The heating system was probably a bit inadequate for the size of the room, but we were warm enough. The bathroom was updated and very modern and because the bathroom was much smaller the heat was very warm and that was good. As most 4 & 5 start hotels go, the breakfast was on the expensive side so we decided to eat outside the hotel, there is a coffee shop across the street with great coffee, hot chocolate, pastries and croissants. We ate dinner in the hotel our first night because we were tired and it was bitter cold to walk around. We were the only ones in the restaurant with one waitress. The food was very good and the service was very pleasant. The second night we eat at a local polish restaurant. The hotel staff was very accommodating and they apologized when they told us that the cable TV was not working and only local programs were working (only three stations all in polish). Overall we have a great experience and if I every go back to Krakow, preferably in the summer, I will stay at this hotel again. I would recommend this hotel to single couples or older travelers. It would probably be a waste of money to bring small children. This is not a budget hotel and if you are looking for a western style hotel this is not that type of hotel either.

I stayed at Grand Hotel Krakow for 5 nights during a conference in Krakow and found the location perfect! Right next to the main square within walking distance of the whole town. Did not have breakfast there as other reviews said to try out the local coffee shops in stead. They had some problems with my reservation and put me in a different hotel the first night, but got compensated with a suite for the rest of the stay.
All in all a very nice hotel for those looking for quality.

Booked in January and then read negative reviews. But we needn't have worried - the hotel is lovely, beautifully kept and scrupulously clean. The room (basic double) was quiet (at our request overlooking the back) and had everything we could have wished for, including hot water! The staff were very friendly and helpful, advising us on public transport and nearby restaurants. And, of course, its location just steps from the main square, is unsurpassable.

We have just returned from our Easter break ,loved Krakow hated this hotel
We were kept waiting 15 mins to check-in
We had to ask directions to our room
Small room with small bathroom
Small tv with 7 channels ( 1 English )
King size bed with 2 single duvets
Hot water - eventually
Basic breakfast if you could find a set table

Not what you would call 5 star possibly 3

My husband and I have just come back from Easter spent at the Grand Hotel, we travelled with our (very wriggly) daughter aged 22 months. We really enjoyed our stay at the Grand and the location (2 mins from the main square) couldn't have been better. The room was spotlessly clean and very spacious (bigger than the average lounge/dining room at home!) and they very helpfully supplied a proper cot with bedding (not an uncomfy travel cot !). The breakfast was very good and lots of it and very fresh. However, the hotel was v quiet but we did find some fellow guests at breakfast. The whole experience was very posiitve and they were very helpful and attentive so if you want a luxury and very traditional hotel in a fab location then book here - you won't be disappointed! Word of warning though, don't fly to Katwowice airport - 50 miles from Kracow and a £75 taxi fare - eek!!!!!! Budget airlines are very sneaky about this!!!!!

Just returned from spending 4 nights at the Grand Hotel. It is a lovely old hotel, and in a great location. You are literally round the corner from the Main square, shops restaurants and bars, but far enough away to have a quiet nights sleep. Our room was at the side of the hotel and was really peaceful. The hotel is immaculate and very clean. The staff were attentive and helpful, and we throughly enjoyed our stay. We had hot water, we had a well stocked mini bar, toiletries and towels were provided, as were bathrobes and slippers. We were not in the room very much other than to change or sleep as there was so much to see and do in Krakow, but when we were in the room it was a nice space to be in. Taking advice from previous vistiors we booked room only and did not eat in the hotel. Proved to be a wise choice because the meals and breakfasts were expensive in the hotel and really cheap in the cafes and restaurants around the square. There are plenty of places to get either a polish, continental or British breakfast so I would advise not to bother paying the hotels prices.

Overall had a great time and would recommend this hotel.

We stayed here in Dec 09 when I would have given this hotel 5 out of 5. Our stay in Feb 2010 was not great-the hotel has gone downhill and fast! There was no hot water-twice! They sent up the maintenance guy who let it run for 20 mins and then told us it should be ok-it wasn’t! The same thing happened on day 3 and we were told that there were no problems with water. The receptionist called back to say that there was a problem and it would take 3 hours to be fixed. No apology or anything! Room service was awful. It took 15 minutes to order breakfast as no-one in room service answered and i was put through to various numbers! When it arrived it was cold! We came back that afternoon and the breakfast plates and cups were sitting outside our room. Nice! Don’t bother thinking about having a nightcap in their bar after you have been out of an evening - it closes at 22.00!!!!!! Upon checkout we were presented with a bill for the duration of our stay. It took me 10 minutes to convince the receptionist we paid online. When we said we were only expecting the bill for our breakfast, they said we didn’t order breakfast!!! After much faffing we were told we didn’t have to pay for the breakfast since they had no record of it! How a hotel can go downhill in such a short space of time, is beyond me - we will be staying elsewhere next time we go to Krakow. The only good thing about this hotel is the location - oh and their taxi driver is very friendly too.
