“Never Mind If the Spirit of Copernicus Comes To You At Night”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

It was a business trip, and our group stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in early April 2012. The hotel is located right in the center of the city, near Wawel and King's Castle, within a 5-minute walk from the Market Square. We arrived in Krakow by a night train from Warsaw and we drove from the railway station to the hotel, we were amazed by the medieval stone-paved streets of the center of Krakow lit by only a couple of lights on the walls of the buildings. When the car stopped at the hotel in an empty narrow street we thought that we had moved a couple of centuries back. But that's the prelude.
Now, the main tune. The hotel is really perfect: everything starting from the lobby and ending with the roof garden was excellent. The restaurant recommended by Michelin guide is above all appraisals. The breakfast was perfect, and some of our group also tried their dinner there, and they were also very pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. The hotel is located in an old building, and all its premises, corridors, rooms (btw there're no more than 40 rooms all in all) etc remind of some medieval castle of Copernicus' time. All but the spirit of Mr. Copernicus, although at night there was an impression that he would come... My room 105 was quite a strange one. It had no windows.. well, there was one window, but it was into the corridor not the street and you had to always keep it curtained otherwise guests from the corridor could easily look into your room. That was I think the only negative thing about the room. Other rooms were also with some 'specialties': some of our group lived on the top-floor, and in those rooms the windows were in the ceiling. In one case the wall between the two rooms was so thin, that the girls who lived there, heard one another's talking on the phone, alarm clock etc. So, first check your room and only then agree to stay in it. However, the hotel is a small one, so it may happen that there will be no more rooms available for exchange. All the rest was perfect.
I think I can recommend this hotel, however, one must always keep in mind that due to its exclusiveness, location, style etc. the price is not low. Well, this could go for a business trip, but when it comes to your money, the room w/o windows in Krakow shoudn't cost more than 200 euros, should it?
It's difficut to write when everything is flawless, so I suggest you should have a look at my photos. If you have any additional questions, you're always welcome to contact me.
Finally, my thanks to the team of the hotel, who acted perfectly in all situations and reacted to our requests promptly and friendly.

Room Tip: My advice: first see the room, then choose. Tastes differ, and rooms sometimes are really strange th...

This is a tough review to write. On the one hand, the people and service were fantastic, and the location in the old town could not be better. But the room was so disappointing that one night we looked for alternatives even though a) moving would be a huge hassle and b) we wound up staying. The problems, listed pretty much in order of priority (along with suggestions to the management):
The bathroom--huge (great), but with one sink, almost no counter space (add something between the sink and the toilet), only two small (and cheap-looking) towel racks, and the biggest problem--no window or exhaust fan. Which means, moisture, which means--some black mold on the walls and problems for those (like my spouse) with allergies. And the "shower"--holding aside the fact that there isn't one, getting into and out of the work-of-art tub, over the quite large ledge, requires quite a bit of acrobatic skill. Actually, could be dangerous.
The bed--nice, king sized, but the duvet barely covers the bed and once you get in, it doesn't (suggestion--get two decent size duvets and have them overlap). And the bed sits into an attractive bed frame, but that means a) it is low to the floor and b) means that there are no box springs. If you go to any mattress website, you will see why box springs are important--bed was uncomfortable (suggestion--get box springs and forget the sleek look, comfort is more important).
The room--beautiful hardwood floors, attractively decorated--but no chest of drawers, in fact, except for the nightstands and desk, no drawers anywhere (suggestion--put a small chest by the door to the left when you enter the room). Little to no usable counter space, and not enough storage space--just a wardrobe and not a huge one (and one that has those cheesy, "security" hangers--lose those. This is supposedly a five-star property and the hangers look like Motel 6).
We would not stay there again, taking the goods with the bads. Which is disappointing, because we really, really wanted to like this property--which does have a number of good features.

This hotel is centrally located in Krakow. It is a 5 minute walk to the main centre but far enough that it's quiet. The surroundings are beautiful, just like the hotel itself. The rooms are spacious and representative of the photos displayed on the hotel website. The room are perfectly clean, just like the entire hotel in general. There is a design-looking pool and Finnish dry sauna in the basement with a changing room (and towels). The main lobby is spacious, the service is quick, and the breakfast brunch is more than basic -- custom orders can also be ordered. This is an ideal choice for an older couple due to the price of the hotel, but a more than satisfactory choice for any guest!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that gives on the interior of the building to ensure that it is not noisy from the st...

I liked this hotel. It has very interesting rooms with exposed beams and antique furniture. The bathrooms could have been finished better, however and the bedding was rather simple. The hotel does serve a tasty breakfast in the atrium, which is a very beautiful, inspring place to get going in the morning. The spa with refeshing jet pool is tucked away in the basement which features beautiful vaulted ceilings and is worth a visit just to see the foundations of this old building. Hotel is centrally located.

Our family (2 adults and 2 teenagers) stayed here for 2 nights during our short visit to Krakow and truly enjoyed it. The hotel neatly fits into the surrounding quiet streets of Krakow and everything about it is welcoming...the lobby, the staff and overall ambience. The rooms are well appointed, very comfortable and quiet. It can be difficult to get a reservation here, but is well worth it.

I recently stayed for one night at the Copernicus in one of their luxury suites, as I was curious to see this place which was recommended to me by various travellers. The room was nice, but a little bit worn out (especially the bathroom) and rather dark (nevertheless, I had a very beautiful night there … ). One thing which is perfect is the location in the oldest street of Krakow: just round the corner from the Wawel castle, and at walking distance of the old town.

On the downside, breakfast is definitely not at the level of a Relais and Châteaux … same applies to the service: basically OK, it was not what I'd call cordial.

After my various stays in Cracow, I definitely arrive at the conclusion that the best choice in this town are the high-end bed and breakfasts and not the hotels – you get more comfort and value at lower prices and you feel much more welcome than in any hotel …

We stayed four nights at this Relais & Chateaux property. We had a suite at a very reasonable rate. The room was large and clean, with a massive well appointed bathroom. Loved the heated floors in the bathroom.
And yet... ..nothing seemed quite right about the room itself. I know it's a historic building but the layout wasn't conducive to comfort. The TV was distant from the bed, much of the furniture was not comfortable.
The location could not be better. Walk out the front door and there is the Royal Castle. The location is quiet.
