Hotel Wyspianski
Ranked #89 of 264 Hotels in Krakow
Reviewed 19 October 2013

The Wyspianski is a very reasonably priced hotel. The staff are pleasant and efficient and the breakfast buffet was fresh and delicious and a great start to your day. We looked at lots of hotels and wondered about the standard and the location as we had never been to Poland before. This hotel is ideal if you want value , comfort and a great location. 5 minutes walk from the square in the centre of the city. You pass a few really lovely restaurants and cafes on the way as well as Krakville tours who arranged our visits to Auchwitz and the salt mines in comfort and style.
Our rooms were not huge , but do not let that put you off. Really well done and so comfy...a great place to rest yout head at the end of a busy day. Krakow was a revelation...a great city to vivit so my advice is GO FOR IT!!! The food and drink are unbelivably cheap and Pod Wawelem restaurant attached to the Royal Hotel was superb and amazing value for money. I cannot wait to return!!

Room Tip: We had 365 - a twin .

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group and were put into a teeny tiny room (there are pictures of these rooms on their web site), The room was so small, the two twin beds were lined up against one wall and the desk on the other - with a 3' passage between. My dorm room in college was bigger! They have larger rooms for not much more money and I would definitely recommend you go for the bigger room unless that additional 35zl will break your bank.
The location is spectacular with the Old Town Square a 5-8 minute walk and Wawel Hill another 10 minutes. Right across the street is the ring-city park that surrounds Old Town Krakow.
We had no air conditioning in our room either which was not a problem since we visited in October.
Food service was excellent two of the three nights, with one mediocre.
Be sure to ask if they will accept Euros if you do not have Zlotys. You cannot charge drinks in the restaurant to your room.
All in all, it is nice for the price but definitely, go for the bigger rooms!

Room Tip: Get a premium double! Do not get the standard double - it is tiny!

The location of this hotel is great. The Main Square is only a 5-6 mins walk and the Jewish Quarter, less than 10 mins in a taxi (walkable for more able bodied people). Yes, the decor is dated but clean and comfortable, especially the beds. I was in the twin bed room. Plenty of space and served my purpose. I do believe that my room had been refurbished recently as the bathroom was very newish and modern. These rooms come with no tea/coffee facilities but you can rent them from reception. The bar opens at 7.00am for which you can grab a coffee and closes at 2.00am. A coffee and glass of wine came to £3.00. I did not use the hotel restaurant but spoke to another guest who that said the food was good. I found the hotel reception staff to be very accommodating. They were happy to book us taxis and help us with directions. There is a computer, free of charge, near the lobby toilets. As previous people have stated, this hotel appears to cater for large groups, particularly students, so it can be quite noisy on odd occasions. I would suggest that they make the lobby more appealing with sofas / tables. There is a lot of wasted space and it could be a nice lounge area. It would be nice to sit and have a drink after a hectic and tiring day. I would stay here again and have since recommended this hotel to a family member.
TIP - buy your currency out there (was told this by a Polish friend). Much better rate. The exchange shops are call KANTOR and are all over the place.

Situated a 2 minute walk from the magnificent central square this hotel was friendly, clean, cheap and incredibly convenient.
Next to several tram stops, it's just outside the walls of the old town, which is presumably why it's cheaper then most of it's close old-town neighbours.
The food was nothing special, but was pleasant if not exactly Michelin, and the room was clean and tidy, of a generous size, with a view out to the old town.
The bar staff were welcoming, even if the decor was not, but they actually ran out of white wine on our first night (then even restaurants in Krakow don't seem to both much with wine!).

We booked this hotel via Expedia in July, paying up front.

When we arrived last Thursday, we were concerned that the hotel looked dated and had a lot of coaches parked up outside.

Our concerns were confirmed when we went inside to find a tired and shabby looking hotel.

What happened next was beyond belief. We presented our booking confirmation (together with proof of payment from JULY) to the receptionist and asked to check in to our 3 twin rooms. We were told that the hotel was overbooked and we were being moved to a different hotel. We protested, on the basis that not only had we made a reservation, but we had parted with our cash 3 months ago, and it was simply not good enough that we were being told they would not honour our booking.

However, fortunately, other friends of ours (who had made a reservation only, in late August) had arrived earlier, thought the hotel was grotty, and if we had the chance to move, we should take it.

We asked to speak to the manager, who came and insisted that we were being moved. She told us "you will prefer this other place. Here we have a lot of big noisy groups. Other hotel is nicer". Unbelievable!

We Trip Advisored the other hotel (Ibis Stare Miastro) and sure enough it was 51 places higher in the rankings, so we accepted the move.

We were very glad we did. The Ibis was excellent, new, clean, great free wifi, good breakfast, helpful staff and next to a huge new shopping mall.

Thank goodness we had a way out of staying at Wyspianski. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Wonderfully central - comfortable hotel - all staff friendly and helpful
Lovely clean rooms and comfy beds !
From a business point of view I suggest more seating in lobby area near Bar/café ( more people I feel would drink on the premises if there was more of a lounge feel to the seating area - lost revenue - if guests drink elsewhere!

The hotel is well placed just 5 minutes walk from the City Centre.. and what a lovely City Centre. The hotel is also very clean but some of the staff were rather surly at times. The room (362) was at the back of the hotel and was reasonably quiet until the bins were emptied at 07.30. Cleanliness was very good and the bathroom was immaculate. Our friends had a bigger room (364) but it was a bit noisier as it faced a street whereas ours did not. The breakfast was just fine- remember you are in a foreign country and their breakfasts will always be different to your own country's. We really enjoyed breakfast... but dinner oh dear. We tried to eat at the hotel on 2 of the three nights we were there but they could not fit us in! We even tried to book the morning before but we were told the dining room was full. They obviously have a lot of coach tours there and the hotel puts those on the bus tours before other guests. Now just how annoying is that! If you had a less mobile person it would be worse of course. Instead we went into the City and had a fabulous meal at a steak/hamburger restaurant called Moo Moo. Highly recommended.. best steak I have had for a long time. Plus a beer and apple strudel... all for £11! Wyspianski's loss of 4 customers was certainly Moo Moo's gain.

The bar area and the reception were efficient and clean.

We enjoyed the hotel but would think twice about recommending it due to the large number of coach tours- both schoolchildren and old folk- who obviously take precedence. Also there was a private Jewish party there one night which meant the restaurant was closed to other guests. They offered to serve our dinner on the bar tables, which was (impolitely) declined. Get it sorted Wyspianski!

Room Tip: One around the back away from the streets!
