Hotel Wyspianski
Ranked #90 of 267 Hotels in Krakow
Reviewed 14 July 2014

Krakow is such a charming, beautiful, fascinating old city. And the Hotel Wyspianski is, well ... functional. If I return to Krakow I would aim to stay at a smaller place within the Old City itself.

The main attraction was the price which was good, however it seems with some searching there would be better options for only a little bit more.

The location is good, but not excellent. It is just outside the Old City - you cross the road and are in the park which was the old moat, then it's 3 blocks to the main square. So it's reasonably convenient, however, there are plenty of places to stay within the Old City, even on the main square itself.

The hotel is large and 1960s/70s style. My room was in the "new" section, which basically means it is in a different building at the back, connected by an inside walkway. It would be nice if you could at least exit from here, but every time you go out or in, you have to walk back around to the main entrance.

The hotel seems quite popular with large tour groups, (probably because tour buses cannot go into the Old City) and school age groups, and so the foyer was often crowded with long queues at the reception desk.

Rooms are on the small side by adequate, bathroom was fine (shower only) although the towels looked liked they are seen quite a few years of service. There is no air conditioning which means it gets stuffy, opening the windows brings a welcome breeze but also lots of street noise.

Breakfast is included and there is a reasonable range of options, although the food quality was average/decent but not great. I was impressed that they provided a "lunch box" breakfast on my last morning when I had to leave for the airport before breakfast was open.

So, if this is the best price you can find, and you don't plan to spend much time at the hotel anyway, this will meet your needs. But if you're looking for a place that brings to life the experience of this wonderful little city, keep looking.

Our first time in Poland we have travelled a lot. This hotel was not one of the best we have stayed at by far. We ended up in the back forty in the annex. The breakfast is cafeteria style pretty skimpy. Would definatley not recommend to others.

Room Tip: Carpets did not look loke they had been vaummed or cleaned in a long time. It looks like they keep t...

We stayed on the 3rd floor room 356, overlooks a small carpark and road. Can be a little noisy if you have to have the windows open at night because of the heat, as there is no air conditioning.
Buffet breakfast is reasonable, staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. You can walk out the front door and be in the main square in 5 minutes walking. Out the front door and turn right and walking within 5 minutes be at the Galleria shopping centre. Out the front door and turn left, and within 10 minutes be at the Jewish Quarter and 25minutes at Schindlers Factory, or 20 minutes walk and be at Wewer Castle. Loads of places to eat in or around the Main Square. In the Main Square there is an underground museum which is well worth seeing. We ate dinner at the hotel one evening and it cost £24 for the two of us for a three course fish meal with a couple of soft drinks and it was a lovely meal. Meat is slightly dearer but not much more.
Be aware that coach tours stay here and it did mean that twice in the evening we could not eat there as the restaurant was closed between 8pm and 10pm for the coach groups.

Room Tip: As I have said above, we were in room 356 third floor overlooking carpark. No A/C so if visiting in...

Good rooms with friendly service. However, it is full of school children who were very loud. Great location. Plain decor. Friendly staff and good value for money. It could pass as a youth hostel. Also. The food was Very average.

very clean hotel, very helpful staff and great breakfasts. Worth every zloty/euros. The rooms are simple but more than adequate. The location is ideal within walking distance to all. Free computer access.

Stayed in room 161 in this hotel in June 2014 when my and my son went on a city break to Krakow. Very clean and very friendly plus breakfast is served from 7 to 11am. While we're on the subject of breakfast let me tell you that the choice is very good and they do excellent fresh coffee. The bar is reasonable for a hotel too with a pint of beer costing around £1.80. That's not bad value for a hotel but there's plenty bars within a ten minute walk. Ideal if you want sight seeing around the main square which is a 5 minute walk. Recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms are quiet and spacious but then again we only wanted a base to keep our stuff while we got out...

Perfectly located for walking into Krakow main square and all other areas, including Wawel castle, Shindlers Factory, the Jewish district of Kazimierz. The bedrooms are a good size with table and chairs however in our room the beds were singles put together with a double topper mattress and the duvets are 2 large singles - but very comfortable. Rooms and bathrooms are kept clean daily, have tv but only 1 channel in English, good wi-fi. Ask for a quiet room not overlooking the front as the trams run constantly, rooms at the rear, which we had, are really quiet.
All staff were very friendly and pleasant, however if you require a taxi to the airport do not book through reception as the rate will be double compared with booking yourself, with companies like 'icars'. This tip is also useful if you require a taxi from the airport on arrival - don't walk outside and use the airport taxis - phone icars or similar private taxi companies.
We did not eat in the hotel other than breakfast, which is not up to the standard of other 4* hotels around the world - unless your choice is for salad, coleslaw, cream cakes and smoked sausage with onion, however there is plenty of juice, coffee, tea, cereal and toast.
I would happily recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a short stay in Krakov and would stay here again myself.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter - rooms at the front overlook the road and trams.
