“Good Location, Lovely Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 January 2014

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights in January 2014, we pick hotels based on their reviews from others and we are glad we did. This hotel is in a great location with comfortable 20 minute walk to the old town and not far at all from the castle.

Breakfast - were not picky people but there was very little choice for breakfast, it is continental style breakfast, however we never went without there is toast and some cereal for the more picky ones of us.

Rooms - just what you need, nice, clean bathroom with power shower, it has a hairdryer in the bathroom, which was great as it meant i didn't have to pack mine in my hand luggage, but it has very little power and if you have lots of hair (like i do) it does take time to dry.

Beds - two twin beds pushed together, this doesn't matter much as after all the vodka at night (which you cannot avoid tasting whilst there) you really wouldn't mind where you slept. 1 gigantic pillow which was a little odd but we made do, it really was just a base for us, didn't spend much time in the room at all.

Rooms in general are extremely hot, we didn't have our heating on and had to open the window in the middle of January, however at least it wasn't too cold. Rooms are big enough for what you need and very clean - cleaners went in every day and changed towels everyday too.

Nice pleasant staff on reception, nothing seemed too much trouble, although we didn't really bother hem much to be honest.

Hotel only short walk from train station and you can get train straight from airport - there is free shuttle bus waiting outside the airport to take you around the corner to train station where you can get train for 12 Zloty each (around £2) straight to Krakow main train station then only 30 minute walk to hotel. Train journey around 20 minutes.

Bus also waits outside airport to get to Krakow center, this takes around 40 minutes but only cost 50p.

Places close by a must try -
Singer pub - excellent character
Paparazi lovely staff, great vodka
Zazie Bistro - the nicest and cheapest 3 course meal we've had
(SEE OTHER REVIEWS FOR THESE)

In the old town the Wodka bar (100 different flavored vodkas) is a must visit and Irish embassy pub for the football.
The old town is lovely in itself and very pretty, a great market in the old town also.

We would return for another visit!! THANK YOU

Wonderfull room view to the old monastery, friendly and helpful staff. Delicious "romantic dinner" a bit spoiled by very thin walls later on.... Location and distance from the Old city is not only "tolerable" but more than comfortable - that I have realized after late evening walk by crowded and wery noisy Old city. Bottom line - wery good choice for that particular price level.

I stayed here with my family. We were a group of six and had two double rooms and one disabled twin room (for my granny and younger sister). The twin room was perfect since it is actually two single rooms within a larger room, like a small apartment. The location is perfect, very quiet at night. Granted, it is not in the town centre, but it is directly between the old town and the Jewish quarter. Krakow is a small city and everything is generally within a 20 minute walk anyway. My Granny mostly travelled by taxi and that is quite inexpensive (about 20pln to get to the station). The reception staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is good, self service with all the usual breakfast items including scrambled eggs and sausages. I'd definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: During summer the rooms at the front of the hotel get very hot during the day because the sun shines...

We stayed here on the advice of a good friend. We liked the hotel. The room was very clean. The bath was OK. It met all my standards - A/C, WiFi, breakfast, easy to get to the stuff I want to do.

We ended up spending a lot of time in the Jewish Quarter because there was a lot of free stuff going on.

Hotel has a super front desk staff.

This isn't the Hilton, but at the price.....

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2013

Stayed for 5 nights 16th-21st June.

The hotel is located on a quiet side street just a few minutes walk from the Stradom tram stop and another couple of minutes to the numerous and very resonably priced bars, cafes and restaurants of Kazimierz.

It is about a 10-15 minute gentle stroll to Wawel Castle and the riverside and a further 5-10 minutes to the Old Town Square (Rynek Glowny).

We arrived a couple of hours before official check in time and understandably our room wasn't ready but the lady on reception (who spoke good english) was friendly and helpful and we were able to store our luggage in a secure room and explore the Jewish Quarter for a while before returning later to officially check in.

Our room was on the 4th floor with nice panoramic windows affording a view of St Augustines church and a small car park and playing fields right ahead and up and down the street to the sides.

The room was nicely decorated and a decent size with plenty of wardrobe space, a minibar (not extortionately priced) a nice clean bathroom with shower, WC and sink, a TV (2 english news channels) and user adjustable air conditioning which was a godsend as the temperatures were upwards of 30 C around Krakow while we we there!

The double bed was 2 singles pushed together but to be fair the room was advertised as a possible 'twin' so that was fair enough.

The mattresses were a little firm and the pillows a bit too soft but that is nit picking really and we never had any trouble sleeping (though that may be due in part to the imbibing of a few of the excellent flavoured vodkas you can buy locally for around 80p a measure).

A breakfast buffet was included in the room price and was taken in a pleasant room on the ground floor across from reception.

As well as the usual tea/coffee/juices/cereals/breads options this comprised the standard 'continental' choices of cold dishes, the only hot food option (other than toast) was scrambled eggs and either smoked sausage or streaky bacon.

Whilst breakfast was good rather than excellent there was plenty to fill you up in preparation for a day exploring the city and we never really felt hungry again until the evening.

Checkout was quick and easy (remember there is a 1.30zl pppn 'tourist tax' to pay which the hotel is obliged to charge and is additional to the quoted room tariff) and again the lady on reception was pleasant and helpful.

In summary, we can't really think of anything negative to say about our stay at The Secesja and it will be the first hotel we check for availabilty if and when we get the chance to return to the wonderful city of Krakow.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 December 2012

This is an excellent hotel for a short city break in Krakow, at a very competitive price. The rooms are comfortable and well furnished. The hotel is very clean, staff very helpful and were always welcoming and smiling. The hotel is ideally located on a small street in the jewish district of Krakow. There are plenty of small, reasonably priced restaurants nearby, each offering something different. The hotel is only a 15-20 minute walk into the Old Town. This may seem a lot to some people but you don't notice it as there are plenty of shops on the way and you also pass by Wawel Castle, which is an impressive sight to say the least.

Breakfast was continental and served a traditional range of dishes. This is not an English hotel so we didn't expect an English breakfast. It easily set us up for the day.

Overall this is a decent hotel and one which I would strongly recommend for those on a budget wanting a comfortable stay in a great location.
