Excellent hotel, clean, very well maintained, quiet, staff unobtrusive and courteous. I was a bit worried because there was no in room safe or a lift. I was also a little worried about all the wood (would it look dated?). We struggled to find a 'modern' hotel that had a lot of good reviews about cleanliness. Most hotels in Krakow seem to have an 'old charm' so I was a bit worried this 'old charm' would really mean smelly, old fashioned wooden furniture. But I really had no worries at all. We asked for a quite room so they placed us above the restaurant at the back, the room right beside the reception. It was indeed quiet, the restaurant below and bars across the way seem to close at 11pm. The only time we heard anything from the bar across the way was on Friday night - we heard dull thuds of bass but no voices, shouting, glass chinking - nothing... and it stopped at 11 pm, so wasn't a problem. We probably stayed at a quiet time of the year (mid June) because there wasn't much activity at the reception desk... except once at 11pm when a very loud tourist discussed travel plans with the Receptionist and the very same tourist seemed to be back at reception at 6am - we could hear the whole thing. But apart from that, that was the only time we awoke. The windows seem to have double shutters which was lovely and really reduced any noise there was. There is a large canopy over the restaurant so even though people smoked and ate outside, never once did I ever smell even the fainted waft of cigarette smoke. The room we stayed in actually slept 4 and was quite spacious. Also had a 2 tables, 3 chairs, bedside cabinets and still felt spacious. Table at the end of the bed for suitcases. The bed was very comfortable with additional blankets and pillows if required and was very clean. The room had lovely dark wooden furniture and floor which did not look dated at all - in fact, quite charming. The floor was very well maintained, clean and polished - not dirty, dusty or marked - I was very impressed. The high ceilings added to the charm of the room. English channels on the tv also. The air con was reasonably quiet and had a remote control. We stayed in mid-June and did need the air con on at night but it was near 30 degrees that week. The bathroom was very clean, reasonable size for 2 people, didn't feel cramped - easy room for 2 people. Free bottles of water every day. Nice wooden plinth by the door to hang coats. Didn't miss a lift at all - the stairs were very nice and clean. No in room safe so left passports and keys with reception. They put the items in a clear poly pocket, taped it up and placed the items in safe below desk and gave us a receipt - I was content with this, but it wouldn't work if you needed frequent access. Receptionist was very polite and unobtrusive. 10% of brilliant Argentine steak house next door. Free Wi fi in the hotel and the free breakfast was sufficient and a good start to the day - cereal, meats, bread, coffee, fruit, cheese. Hotel Karmel is in an absolutely excellent area - bars, restaurants, small supermarkets, quaint shops, jewellery shops, etc, and only a few streets from a couple of tram stops. The area is in the Jewish area and really had a lived in, local charm - didn't feel touristy at all - I would highly recommend Hotel Karmel and this lovely cobbled charming area particularly. I would not consider going anywhere else if I was to return. There are a lot of cheap places to stay in Krakow - we paid £428 for 5 nights and I felt this to be a very good price for the quality and location.

Room Tip: At the back above the hotel's restaurant seems to be quieter than the front overlooking a number of bars.

Impeccable accommodations including air conditioning, superb breakfast offerings, friendly, service-oriented staff, free WiFi, a scant 15-minute walk to Wawel Castle and 20 minutes to Market Square. The restaurants attached to the hotel are also wonderful options (a huge benefit if the weather happens to be uncooperative).

Last December we visited Hotel Karmel for the second time. The hotel with it's beautiful facade is located in Kazimierz (the former Jewish quarter) and it's about a 15 minutes walk from Rynek Glowny, the square in the old town. Kazimierz is a lovely area both day and night. In the night there are several bars, playing great music, full of students and other locals. The interior of these bars is very interesting and not any touristic at all. If you don't want to walk to and from the old town, the taxis are almost free!
The hotel does also have a very nice interior. We did stay in a Comfort Plus room and it was spacious and with lovely furniture. The breakfast was good and served in the very atmospheric cellar. A very good hotel with a great location and it was very inexpensive as well.
But please remember one thing. The Poles tend to be very shy. In a B&B in Italy you often will feel like visiting family after staying there just one night, not so in Poland. They are not unfriendly or hostile or anything, just very shy. But just take the initiative and say hello to them first and you will have a good time. We did!

Room Tip: Book Comfort Plus rooms only!

The hotel is on a peaceful street, seconds away from Plac Nowy with its many bars and restaurants. The city centre is accessible on foot or you can catch a tram from a nearby stop. We stayed for five nights and thought the hotel made a great base. Breakfast was plentiful and all the products were of high standard, which is not always the case with hotel buffet breakfasts. Fresh coffee was made to order and there where several cooked breakfast options that could be ordered to go with the buffet option. When we next visit Krakow I will not hesitate to stay at Hotel Karmel.
I would not recommed this hotel for visitors who have mobility issues. The reception was on the 1st floor, and all guest rooms appeared to be on the 1st floor or higher. There did not appear to be any rooms on the ground floor.

We spent 3 nights in this small, cute, neighborhood hotel in the Jewish Quarter in Krackow. Room was clean, quiet and very nicely decorated. Nothing too fancy, but perfect for our needs. The staff was very accomodating, we felt very safe at the hotel and the in room internet worked just fine. Location is fantastic, easy walking distance to everything. We would highly recommend this hotel for others.

Room Tip: You might want to ask for a room away from the street if you are sensitive to room noise.
