“Good value hotel in great location”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

Just returned from 4 day stay at Hotel Matejko. Hotel in excellent location for using public transport and within a few minutes walk from Old Town. Only 5 minutes walk from train and bus station. We used the train from the airport and caught a bus to Auschwitz. Also bus to Salt Mines stops just round the corne,r which we also used.
Room was good sized with excellent bathroom, all kept very clean. Breakfast was normal continental style available throughout the Europe.
Would have no problem returning or recommending this hotel.

That was my first hotel experience in Krakow. I have chosen this hotel due to its price, location and good reviews, and I definitely do not regret. 5 minutes walk from the railway station, even less to the famous Planty (tree passage surrounding the old town) with its Brama Florianska (the medieval Florian Gate); nearly all major sights within an easy walk - that was the first advantage.
The hotel room was very spacious, clean and adequately furnished, so as to make the stay really comfortable (maybe a hair dryer could still slightly boot up the comfort of the stay...). It was also quiet, what is a prerequisite for a good stay for me.
The breakfast was at good level, too - a variety of tasty food of various sorts on display.
All in all, there was really nothing about this hotel to make fuss about. Recommendable for all sorts of guests (well..., maybe not for those who pop in for a weekend just to have a row of beer and barely even notice where they are, after all).

We stayed at this hotel for one night on march 23rd.I was not expecting anything fantastic as we only paid £26 for the 2 of us with breakfast.
What a nice suprise we had, upon entering the staff were very welcoming.
Our room was clean and comfortable with a nice bathroom.
Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice.
The hotel is located 10 minutes from the square, but its a very pleasent walk.
There are also quite a few bars and eateries on the same street as the hotel if like us you are using the hotel as a stop over for the night.
Would certainly use again.

Room Tip: choose a room at the back if your a light sleeper.

Location is great and very close the centre of town without the noise and lights. However, when we arrived we found our room had no curtains. As it was a Saturday the response was that they were at the drycleaners and as all the other rooms on the same rate as ours were full there was nothing they could do about it. It wasn't until the next day that some curtains showed up after they were brought in from another room. Breakfast was disappointing compared with what we have experienced at other hotels and Europe (cordial for orange juice in this case), and given that there are plenty of very cheap and nicer options in town, it probably wasn't worth bothering. There was also no safe in the room, so don't expect anywhere to put your passport or valuables. If we were to return we'd probably stay somewhere else.

Old fashioned hotel with old fashioned decor but our room was spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable with everything we needed. The best thing about it was the price, very good value considering the very convenient location, 10minutes walk from the Railway Station and just a few minutes to Florians Gate in the Old City and the Main Square. Breakfast was fine too, lots of variety, I'd happily stay again!

could not ask for a better location! 5 min walk from the massive shopping centre and the main city centre square! the Matejko Square, despite its central location, is very quiet and spacey with free car parking at weekends!
Not easy to find when driving due to recent city development but walking distance from the train and coach station.
Hotel itself very clean, well maintained and lovely presented, room quite large so as the bathroom. No hair dryer though.
Got the room on the top floor with some nice views and no noise whatsoever.

The only disappointment was the breakfast. At 9.30 on Sunday morning (served until 10.00) there was no fresh bread and the leftovers were dry and old. Not a big choice with other food either and not very well presented. No staff to serve a hot coffee or tea so only helped ourselves with an orange juice. A nice hot breakfast would made my day but unfortunately not on this occasion.

Overall, nice hotel and I would recommend. There are plenty of coffee shops nearby which serve lovely food at a reasonable price.
I booked this hotel through www.booking.com (as always) and paid 150PLN (30GBP) for a Saturday night and it was a bargain!

Room Tip: top floor no noise!

Spent four nights in two rooms here with family, kids 10-16. Reasonably priced and within walking distance to Old Town and Kazimierz. Breakfast was varied with a choice for everyone. When I enquired about taking some bread with us for a picnic lunch we got bags with yoghurts, juice, apple and chocolate for free. A la carte dinners reasonably priced and tasty. Rooms were well sound-proofed and comfortable, with modern bathroom (no tb) and fitted carpets. Wireless internet available free in the restaurant.

Room Tip: Some rooms face a church, if one is disturbed by church bells. Internet apparently available in room...
