Reviewed 28 June 2014

We were looking for an inexpensive hotel in Krakow for a five-day stay and the Matejko exceeded all our expectations. The first surprise was that it was within walking distance of the main bus and train station. Second surprise that the rooms were nice and big with a good sized bathroom. Third surprise that the main square with all the different attractions was also within walking distance. Our room was at the front of the building and although there was some noise from nearby cafes and restaurants we didn't have any problem getting a good night's sleep as the beds were very comfortable. The reception staff were quite polite but not very knowledgeable or enthusiastic.

There was a good choice of food at breakfast - both hot and cold - and the staff were constantly replenishing the dishes. Coffee was from a machine but was surprisingly drinkable.

We were very pleased with our choice of hotel and felt comfortable and relaxed during our stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front may be a bit noisy.

As we are traveling around Europe we found this hotel in the perfect location right next to the railway station. Reception staff were polite but could have been a little more helpful. Night staff were nice. Breakfast selection was adequate and well stocked. The only negative was the wifi signal which was very poor, especially given we were only on the 1st floor. Because of this only scored 4/5.

Three lads visiting krakow, booked 3 single rooms a few months ago. When we got there and got to our rooms two of us had double rooms and the other had a twin. Really pleased with this, the breakfast was good, nice choice but need a commercial toasting machine, the little one is not very good. The rooms were big, clean and tidy, rooms cleaned daily and aired. The bar is really just a small part of the restaurant, beer 7.5 pln a pint about £1.50 a pint, ok for a hotel. Great location for visiting the centre of Krakow. Little bar next door £1.20 a pint, great, and also little restaurant next to that, basic but quite good food and very very reasonable as is the beer. Found a little indoor market round the corner left at the church next to hotel. Full of local people, great for fresh fruit and anything else you might need and quite cheap. Great big indoor shopping mall when you turn right out the hotel then right again. Walk down the street you can't miss it, definitely one for the ladies not three blokes on their own but had a quick look around anyway. Overall good location and would stay there again.

This is a lovely old hotel with spacious rooms and is very close to the town centre. The breakfast was good and evening meals and drinks were very reasonable. The only real down side was that we had a 4th floor apartment and the lift kept breaking down. The only other problem is that I have tried to book it twice since, and it is always full!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main road

Perfect hotel for a short break to Krakow.

Great Location - Close to the bus station and less than 10 minutes walk from the Old Town.

Rooms - we had 2 rooms, one faced an inner courtyard and the other faced the main road at the front of the hotel. Both rooms were quiet with no problems with outside noise. Good size and clean rooms.

Staff - Helpful and efficient.

Breakfast - Buffet breakfast with a good choice.

Cost - very good value for money.

I would have no hesitation in staying at this hotel again.

The hotel is ideally situated for the old town, the Barbican and city wall are 100 yards away. The Hotel is comfortable and spotlessly clean - the staff are very helpful and friendly and reception is open 24 hours. Breakfast has plenty of choice but is continental rather than English but there is sausage and scrambled egg. Value for money this hotel is great.
Krakow is a beautiful city with lots of history and plenty of things to do and places to eat and drink.
We booked transfers to and from the Airport and day trips to Auschwitz and the Salt Mine and Schindlers factory in advance with Krakow Direct.com and would recommend them as they used quality vehicles, were punctual and the trips were excellent.

Room Tip: Had a room at the front of the hotel on the first floor that was a bit noisy with traffic - hotel is...
