A really good hotel, with nice amenities, good breakfast spread, and really friendly and knowledgeable staff. I was there on Christmas and was afraid that there were going to be no restaurants open (which turned out to be untrue), and the front desk did all they could to call around to see who is open. The only down part is the location. It is true that it is only a few minutes away from the Market Square, but it's a few right turns away, so it feels a little disconnected from all the action. Regardless, I highly recommend a stay in Amber Hotel!

It's all been said by previous reviewers but this is simply a first class small in every aspect one could wish for. It offers brilliant value for money. We were given a large room with modern decor, a large TV, the Cherry Vodka (Wisniowka) so nice that we brought some home, a 6 foot wide bed, sofa, large wardrobe space, an office area and very good free wi-fi. The standard of housekeeping was excellent and there were several magazines with very good uptodate information on what was current in Krakow.
The reception staff were first class, welcoming, always smiling and happy to advise on places to eat, trams to catch etc (and provide small change for the trams) and in arranging taxis to and from the airport (note: for some reason Poles do not expect to have to tip taxi drivers!).
The breakfasts could be very filling if one didn't exercise some restraint with a wide choice of cold meats and cheeses, rolls and pastries and hot frankfurters and fried eggs with pancakes.
The location is 5-6 minutes easy walk from the centre of the old town and handy for the exceedingly cheap trams to all parts of the city. Whilst we were there we went to a Turner exhibition at the National Museum, entrance was £2 each compared with over £10 at the Tate for his last special exhibition.
We would be delighted to return to this hotel in summer.
One note of caution. The Christmas market by comparison with many other European destinations quite a limited affair occupying about only a third of the main square. However, as a place to dine out well at very good prices, Krakow is unbeatable.

Room Tip: We had 306, at the back which was larger than any others on that floor.

Superb hospitality and impeccable service. Reception staff were friendly and caring and offered helpful advice. When my wife sought medical treatment on the day of our departure the staff contacted a pharmacist, then directed her to a hospital. Thanks to their assistance my wife was able to see a doctor and receive treatment that enabled us to catch our flight on time.

Quite simply this hotel must be one of the cosiest, homeliest, professionally presented that I could wish to visit. Attention to detail by all the staff from the moment of our arrival to our departure was great, rooms were well sized, clean and featured endearing touches such as the decanter of cherry vodka welcome drink overlooked by a small teddy bear sitting on the bed !
The second day of our stay was St. Nicholas Day (6th. Dec) a day of gift giving in Poland and in the morning hanging from the handle of each bedroom door was a beautifully wrapped bar of Swiss chocolate - this thoughtful gesture summed up the service level provided at The Amber.
Free WiFi is available, a sauna and multi gym are provided on the lower ground floor and the ground floor restaurant where a comprehensive choice of breakfast was on offer also provided a varied evening dinner menu. Yet another useful and individual touch was the daily hotel newsletter on each table at breakfast outlining basic information on the city and some "whats on" suggestions.
This hotel provides complete value for money and is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful Old Town, trips further afield being readily booked from reception.
We traveled as a group of 5 with age range 19 - 64 and were all very impressed by Hotel Amber and are happy to give a recommendation of the highest order whilst already planning our next stay !

We booked this hotel for our first visit to Krakow. We are so pleased. Kind, helpful, attentive staff, very clean hotel, excellent breakfast, free Wifi, very near centre of Krakow, tea and coffee making facilities in room and a very generous complimentary cherry vodka. We will definitely visit again.

Booked the hotel through Expedia. Lovely hotel in close proximity to the main square. Reception staff very friendly and we were given access to our room immediately (11am). Room was of a very good standard with TV and tea/coffee making available and the bathroom was superb with a super shower and lots of hot water. The breakfast was more than adequate with a good selection of hot and cold food, my only complaint being that it was served in quite a small room with the food presented on a narrow bar which if a number of guests were present together resulted in a bit of a 'traffic jam'.
Krakow itself is a very pretty city and is very 'doable' in a few days. We took advantage of the free walks that start each day from outside the large church in the corner of the main square. At 11am there is the 'City walk' which takes place every day and at 3pm the 'Jewish Quarter walk' but this is not available between December and I think March (weather!). Both our guides were very knowledgable with a good mix of history and humour.
