Just returned from lovely short break in Krakow staying at the Aparthotel Spatz. The location is fantastic in romantic atmospheric Kazimierz area with funky candle lit bohemian cafes and bars on the doorstep. We had a cosy, compact room on the top floor under the sloping eaves so no street noise and no problems with bags as very polite staff obliged! Comfy, warm beds were just the thing after sightseeing in the snow! Very clean and well equipped rooms. Buffet breakfast was fine with fresh fruit and range of cheeses and savoury dips as well as eggs cooked to order. Mexican music in breakfast room maybe a little too lively after a late night on the krupnik (vodka with honey and cloves - gorgeous!) but otherwise a perfect place to stay in a perfect city.

We stayed at he Aparthotel Spatz for a long weekend in February. The hotel was lovely and clean with neutral decoration. The reception staff were very helpful and there was always someone available. We ate in the restaurant on our first night and the food was fantastic, the staff in the bar were very attentive and made a great cocktail! There was only one down point and that was the George Michael music dvd, we heard it about 4 times during out stay! :)

booked thro alpharooms.com........went for sons 21st birthday, there was 6 of us, stayed on 2nd floor all next to each other, sons room was the biggest, but ours was well big enough for the amount of time we stayed in it, it was spotless which is what i look for, the sheets/towels were crisp and white, we had made our mind up to stay at a different hotel, bt changed our minds as this was a little cheaper, well worth the money we paid, which wasnt very much at all, would def stay again if we visited poland, the brekkie was great, overall we had a brill time......

I have travelled a lot around Europe and have usually stayed in small cosy hotels. This hotel was just awesome! We got a really big room, I would say that we almost had a living room and a bedroom. The decoration in the room was nice and fancy. The location was also good, only 5-10 minutes walk to the old town. I highly recommend this hotel. I still can´t understand how the stay could be so cheap even the hotel quality was so high. Spatz was a great place to stay!

If you are considering a trip to Krakow, first of all you MUST go and secondly, you MUST stay at this Aparthotel, it is an amazing little place and I cant emphasis more how enjoyable an experience we had at this fabby place!
As always, I was checking all the reviews on tripadviser for Krakow, before I came across Spatz.
Am I glad or what?

Booked a 2night/3 day break, was a little worried it may be too cold in Krakow at this time of year, but even though there was alot of snow when we arrived, nothing comes to a halt like it does in the UK. Pack lots of layers, invest in a good hat and you'll be fine.

I checked out all the advice re transport from the airport, but as it was after 8pm when we arrived (at a very neat and new lookin airport!) we thought we'd just jump into a taxi. I think if it had been summer and daylight, we would have quite happily have jumped on a bus or train - available from the airport (you can find all the timetables on www.krakow-travel.com). The taxi took about 30 minutes and was 80 zlottys (roughly about £20). At the hotel we were met at the reception by a VERY helpful young man, who checked us in and supplied us with a local map. He kindly indicated where the market square was and also marked for us all of the most interesting little pubs etc. His english was superb and he couldnt have taken more time with us. We also booked to go to Auswitz the next day. Again, we know we could have got a train or bus, for pennies, but as we only had one full day we wanted to do it right. It cost 120zlottys each - about £30) and this included the taxi picking us up from the comfort of the hotel, the 90minute journey to Austwitz, a 1hour45 min tour of Auswitz, then we were driven by our driver to Birkenu camp (3km away) and the tour guide showed us around here too). SO all in all a 6 hour trip/tour, which I thought was fantastic for the money and a MUST for anyone to visit. It is so humbling to walk through the gates at Austwitz, and very sad and earie standing in one of the gas chambers!. The fact that it was cold and snowy added to the torment the victims suffered!

Our room at the Spatz was on the 2nd floor. There are no lifts, but we only had small bags, so no problem. The hotel is very contmeporary, set amongst the old Jewish part of town in a magnificant old building. The room itself was one of the smaller ones available, but was very trendy and more than enough for us. The showerroom was small too, but again, neat and perfect for our needs.

We spent the first night in the bar downstairs (which I understand is not part of the aparthotel). The staff were absolutly first class and I must say it was warm and comfortable and we were made to feel like they couldnt do enough for us. The drinks were alot cheaper than the UK. Can I use this to mention the cocktails????? My husband and I spent the next evening working our way through the entire cocktail menu (we never managed to try them all!) the bartenders were superb! The cocktails were so well presented and ummmmmm, the best I have ever had! Try the stawberry daquiri and their grande mojito!!!!!! SUPERB!

The old jewish town has hundreds of bars, cafes and restaurants, there are bars that are dark, candlelit, bars that are trendy, bars where the tables are sewing machines etc... you have everything on your doorstep at the Spatz.

The old market square and Wessel Royal Castle is 10/15 min walk away. Its a pleasant walk, head out of the hotel and turn left at the end of the road and its all straight from there. The Castle is amazing and sits glaring down over the square. The market square again is huge and dominated by some magnificant buildings. Around the square are some good designer shops and again plenty of eating/drinking places. We tried 'POD SLONCEM' facing towards the castle in the sqaure. Quite simply tasted one of the money beautiful meals ever! Polish soup (yum) and pork dishes, they must be tried! Again it was rougly about £20, for a 2 course mean with drinks!!!!

On our last day we sampled the food in the Manzan a(downtairs at he aprthotel - where you have your breakfast in the mornin). Its a mexican and the presenation of the food? First Class! Nachos, fahitas, believe me its all so fresh and extreamly tasty. We got a free magazine at the airport on our way home and the restaurant was featured with huge rave reviews!

Breakfast in the hotel is continental style, bread, crossiants, ham, cheese, fruit, cereal, juices and you can have eggs, however you want them (the chefs omlettes - to die for and again presentation - fab!).

SO GO to Krakow! Go visit the culture, the history, the people, the food, but most of all this FANTASTIC little hotel!

Having read the reviews on Trip Adviser we booked the Spatz Hotel for a long weekend with friends. Once again thanks to all who recommended this; they were not wrong. Here is an excellent c20room hotel situated in the Jewish quarter of the city some 15 minutes walk away from the main square, but with lots of excellent upmarket bars and restaurants on the doorstep. Included in those are the mexican restauarant and cocktail bar immediately adjacent to (but apparently not owned by ) the hotel.

The old building has been refurbished to a high (and contemporary style) standard. Rooms are very tastefully done if a little minimalist. Spotlessly clean. As with other reviewers I would agree the staff are brilliant - always keen to welcome you in the morning and whenever you come in on an evening. Always hapy to book your taxis , restauarants and generally give advice.

The bar does close at midnight and although the staff were very friendly the lady who appeared to be the owner wasn't so and despite the opportunity of cusom into the small hours she just seemed to want the place emptied. As stataed above however this should not detract from the hotel as it seemed under different ownership.

Would also recommend two restauarants - Ancora - and Brzozowy Gaj. Excellent meals

In summary I would thoroughly recommend Spatz Hotel as great value for money hotel, well positioned and very hospitable
