Review of C.K. Browar

C.K. Browar

Found this place by mistake as the entrance does not do the place justice. Once inside you go down a flight of stairs into the cavern pub area. Staff were great and attentive and the choice of beers was ok. Price for beers and food was good and the fact that locals used the place was a good sign. Very popular at the weekend. Would definitely go there again if back in Krakow

Myself and 3 professional friends (in our late 40's early 50's) visited this bar purely on the reviews from this site and boy were we happy with the visit. So much so that we kept going back ! They give you a menu on entering that has both beer and food. If there's a few of you I would recommend trying each of the 4 or 5 draft beers to see which one suits best. They are all good, but liking bitter type beers more than gassy lagers we plumped for the wheat beer which fortunately for us was the cheapest. Not that anything costs much in Krakow if you stay off the main square. It's impressive that they serve beer by the glass or in a massive see thru drainpipe thing with a tap on it so you can help yourself. Believe me it doesn't take long to get thru 3.3 litres of beer when its this good. Second night out we fancied a scoff so decided to eat in the CK Browar restaurant which is much quieter than the bar although you do miss the atmosphere in the cavern bit. We ordered a variety of things but the 'ribs, hock, schnitzel, potatoes and fried cabbage (sound horrible tastes great) selection was incredible. Never had ribs that good in my life and they were a million times better than the dross ones I got in the 'Sioux' steakhouse the following day. Our waitress was great and friendly, but some of the others, although stunningly pretty, didn't appear to be loving their jobs. Absolutely no dick heads in there. Major bonus when all you want is a good night out with your mates/colleagues. Thats not to say there weren't loads of young people in there, there were loads but all were well behaved and impressively polite to us Brits. The only downside was the toilets smelt like the monkey house, but that was a common trait in many of the 'cavern' type pubs. The easy answer is go before you come out and don't spend too long in the bog, Simples! Krakow is a brilliant city, very similar to Prague and I will undoubtedly be going back with my missus and CK Browar will be the first bar we will be visiting.

Upon arrival, and pre-booking a duo of tables for 13, we encountered unrivalled disappointment when we were told that our tables had been given away like candy at a playground. After being split across the seedy restaurant area, we were given 2 menus for the 13 strong party to share. We went on to order drinks, which arrived 50 minutes after ordering. The only drinks that arrived within an acceptable timeframe was the quite frankly abhorrent house ale. The two members of staff that were working that evening were rude, ignorant, disrespectful and deceitful. One of them appeared to be high. Furthermore, upon tipping the waitress, with a fair sum given the service, we were left awestruck when she proceeded to pick up the tip and threw at back at one of our group, stating she didn't want it - frankly, we didn't want the terrible food we were served, but we didn't throw that back. Another drawback to this establishment was the condition the condition of the toilets. Upon entering the toilets there was a quite prominent stench spreading itself down the hallway to the toiletries. To my dismay I then went on to discover that there was faecal matter lying on the floor.
To surmise, this was an awful outing, having been here for 5 days and thoroughly enjoying the many other eateries across the city, we were left tired and depressed. I would highly recommend ignoring anyone that has reviewed this establishment in a positive light, because all in all, this is comparable to a Little Chef.

The main reason to come here is that you can get massive tubes of slightly rubbish beer to pour out for yourselves - at least if our experience is anything to go by - the cheapest beer called "light" is very cloudy, very cheap and not all that nice. We chose it on the basis that it might be reasonably low in alcohol for a "session" but I would recommended maybe tasting one of the others before you buy.
