“Great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2012

We had a great room--private with bath, it was virtually a suite, with a small sitting area and a loft in addition to the bedroom (Room 12, Lavender Friday). Very good location--quiet, but quite near a very lively night time area with lots of terrific restaurants and such. Very close to a tram line if you want it to reach Old Town, but it's quite walkable. Good breakfast included. Only downsides--no ac or fans, so a little warm (it was hot when we visited in July), and laundry takes overnight because of drying times (its not self-ervice). Krakow is a great value overall, and a very interesting place to spend some time.

We stayed in Serozca apartment in June, it is basic but everything is there, even a good hair dryer.
There are 2 bath towels and a hand towel. The shower is over a very small bath. There is a bedroom, comfy bed but lumpy pillows. A lounge with settee and TV, kitchen with a table &chairs. There is an old 2ringed stove that we didn't use. A fridge/freezer. The position is excellent, so near everything and right on the square with loads of bars/restaurants. Just around the corner is a restaurant called portifino, food was first class and we went 3 nights it was that good. Krakow is really cheap, with excellent public transport and so much to do and see. The hostel is not far away, the free breakfast was also good

I selected this hostel based on the great prior reviews. We originally stayed in the Cybulskiego Guest Rooms (hostel) near the main square in Krakow, but unfortunately we left for a weekend trip to Austria and Czech Republic and they were booked solid for the dates when we returned to Poland. So, we booked this place.

No comparison. At all.

Since we travel regularly and are students we are accustomed to hostels, but this place was not up to standards based on the rave reviews. Don't waste your time or money here.

The Good: Charming garden themed rooms that are well-decorated, and the location in Kazimierz is central

The Bad: Bathroom had a clogged shower drain that they didn't fix so we couldn't take full showers without the water spilling all over the floor and into the rooms. Also the sink sprayed water out sideways. Walls are PAPER thin and its fairly noisy for a hostel. Beds are on the floor and hard to sleep on with sand paper sheets and towels. Breakfast was lousy compared to other hostel breakfasts at a comparable price. Service - the first person we checked in with told us one of our friends couldn't book his airport transfer at the time he needed because someone else had already booked it. The next day when we talked to a second person they said he could be taken any time and said it was no problem (???). We went out with a local friend one night and he walked back with us at 3:30am since the trams had stopped running and we had been out at bars. He slept on our floor for 3 hours and left at 6:30am to walk home once it was light out (didn't shower, use bathroom, eat there or anything) the next morning I was charged FULL PRICE for having a third person staying there!!!! Really?!?! Someone essentially hangs out for 3 hours then leaves and I have to pay for him??? COME ON.

Will never stay here again. Ridiculous. Oh and finally, it is not a "youth hostel" at least in our experience since everyone at breakfast was 40+ years old and mostly male. NOT A FUN PLACE.

Many other great places to stay in Krakow! AVOID THIS ONE
Try Cybulskiego Guest Rooms!!! They were AMAZING!!!

My husband, infant daughter and I stayed in the apartment on Szeroka for 2 nights. The apartment was surprisingly spacious, with a separate kitchen, living room and bedroom and furnished in a functional, modern way. (There was even coffee in the kitchen!) This apartment is on the ground floor, which was great for us to not have to haul our stroller up and down stairs, but it does mean that tourists are walking right past your living room windows.

The Secret Garden staff were great - we had a baby cot and tub in our room when we arrived, and the airport transfer was very comfortable and convenient. Our one issue was that it was quite cold in the apartment. Apparently central heat is controlled by the city, so in May the radiators don't work. One of the nights we were there, the temperature dropped to freezing outside, so needless to say, we were chilly!

Overall, I would absolutely stay here again, especially given the price, but I'd bring warm PJs if the weather called for cool nights.

The secret is out! This place was great. We had a nearby apartment which was great value. Airport transfer option was taken up by us and for a few extra dollars, well worth it. Apartment very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent security. Great breakfast. A short walk to the Jewish quarter which was a lot less touristy than the central part of town.

Room Tip: Consider the apartment option rather than just a hostel room.

booked into the two bed deluxe apartment with the secret garden hostel in krakow. the apartment is located in Kazmeriez. only 10min walk to main square. but why go to the main square while Kazmeriez offers great sightseeing and best of all is so cheap you couldn't spend your money. beers going for 77pence!!!! if its not all about the beers then do a bit of tourist stuff properly by renting bikes with the secret garden and keep cycling till you drop. the further you explore the cheaper it gets and you get to see real poland. people are great.
anyway, the apartment is massive (6a on josefa street) and has all the amenities you need. two separate bedrooms and away from any noise. well secure. thought mattress were very thin but could not have had a better night sleep. no complaints. staff back at the secret garden were all so helpful and would do all they could for you. breakfast is basic but tasty to start the day off. you have to make your way back round to secret garden but only two min walk if you could be bothered. great to get a pick-up at the airport for 60zl. saves hassle for a few quid extra. think they are cheaper than airport taxi anyway. hard to see anyone taking a hotel room over this place.

Room Tip: this review concerns 6a on josefa street so cant comment on other rooms.

We stay for 5 night at Józefa Street ApartemWe staid at Józefa Street Apartement - the flat is great modern (Ikea furniture), spacious and very clean.

Few maintenance issues:
- We wake up a morning to found out that none of the plugs had power ... fixed by lunchtime on the same day.
- The bathroom door was not closing or locking so not much privacy in shower or toilets... Informed Reception so should be fixed by now.
- The beds are cheap mattress so not confortable at all.

The main problem is that the flat is on a top of a nightclub - open from wed to sunday morning 22h-07h!
We wake up on sunday morning at 7am as our bed was still vibrating from the bass!
So we did call the police as it was the second night in role!
So perfect if you are a party animal!

The breakfast in at the Hostel (5min walk formt eh flat) is basic but correct:
Tea/Coffee, cereals, ham, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, cottage cheese, yaghourts...

The staff is very nice and speak good english as everybody in Krakow.

Room Tip: Book this flat only if you planning for clubbing every night! Bed not confortable if you have back...
