Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor - thought this would be a good one .
First of all the - 's
Only one I think - don't pick a room at the front of the hotel . I could only just hear the trams going past and we were in a back room .
Well if you have a go at the local vodkas I'm sure a room at the front will be okay !
On the plus side - the room & bathroom was clean and up to our standard - good shower
comfy bed , telly - oh I forgot no tea making gear - but they did have a mini bar in the room and free water . Beer in the fridge was only 8zlt which isn't even £2 .
Breakfast was okay - you can't expect the full monty when you're in the eastern bloc , but there was yoghurt , cereal , bacon , scrambled egg . bread ( doorstop variety ) and all the other weird stuff - gherkins , variety of cold meats e.t.c.
Staff are really helpful and will tell you how to get anywhere you want to go .
    Trips ,
Auschwitz - went with the hotel taxi - cost 450zlt for four of us + 40zlt each to get in . You can do this yourself but it was about -12 c and we didn't fancy waiting for a bus . It is about an hour and 20 minutes in the taxi - he will wait for you and take you to Birkenhau and then back to the hotel . You get an english speaking guide and the tour is about two hours - well worth it - 90 minutes at Birkenhau - the same guide will meet you there . Bit of a strange visit really as it is a tribute/museum making a statement that this must never happen again .
Wieliczka Salt Mine - taxi from the hotel was going to cost us 250zlt so we got hold of another taxi firm and the hotel reluctantly rang up for us and this cost 50zlt . Got the bus back - cost 16zlt for four . On the bus you need the right money - put your coins in a machine , get a ticket and then validate it by punching it into another machine opposite - wouldn't have had a clue unless another english couple had told us what to do . Cost 73zlt each to get in and compared to Auschwitz definitely NOT WORTH IT . It's a salt mine and the government must have thought - let's make this into a tourist attraction and make a few quid - full of statues made out of salt - only trouble is that it is that well advertised that you won't believe me and you will have to find out for yourself !
We were there for four days and we also visited Schlindlers Factory which you can walk to - worth going to see .
Four restaurants we visited Best one Pod Baranem - 2nd Starka , 3rd Podkowa , 4th Granny Raspberry's . Taking these into consideration that we only had four days there and they were all good . So I think if you went anywhere in the city you would get a good deal . On average with drinks it was just under £40 for 2 ( evening ) .
If you get into the backstreets of e.g. Midowa street a round of 3 vodkas and a beer - not even a fiver !
First day tried the local soup - with 4 beers and 2 soups + chips was about £10 . Soup was flavoured dishwater with a sausage and an egg in it - well you've got to try the local stuff or what's the point in going ?
To finish I would say I always pick a hotel which is representative of the country , hence I would never stop in a Great Western or Hilton and the Columbus is great to meet the local people and sample the true polish spirit - if you get my meaning (40%).
Taxi from airport to hotel £20 - 20 minute run - for all the hassle of trains/trams and we only had 4 days so we booked it before we came .
Book this place and you will have a great break .

Room Tip: If you can ask for a room at the back - big tramlines running along the front street - constant rumble .

The place is very nice, the staff very pleasant and the price really affordable....we were very happy to stay there. It is located in the downtown where you can visit the old churches and the Jewish synagog. The rooms as you see them on the net...no desapointment

I just stayed at the Columbus Hotel for 4 nights in mid January. If you are looking for a warm, hospitable, convenient place to stay, look no further. This is a very nice, small hotel in Kazmierz, where 3 tram lines stop right in front of the hotel making it very convenient to get to the train station and airport. Otherwise, you could walk to the station in 20-25 minutes. The old city center is only a 10 min walk away. Plus you get to stay in Kazmierz, loaded with nice restaurants and historical places to visit. Schindler's museum was a 15 min walk, many synagogues are nearby, plus many fine restaurants. The hotel rooms are clean, have nice furnishings, and the baths are updated and even have heated towel racks. Breakfast is more than satisfactory. The staff is very helpful and attentive and make you feel welcome. I would gladly recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Room Tip: For really quiet rooms, ask for rooms in the back of the hotel.

23.01.13 - just returned from a two day trip to Krakow where we stayed in the Columbus Hotel. This hotel is very well situated between the Jewish Quarter and the Market Square. Only a ten minute walk either way. The hotel staff were lovely and the rooms very warm and extremely clean. There was a good choice for breakfast with both warm and cold choices. The hotel is a small and friendly and is very good value for money.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel would be much quieter as the trams run in front of the hotel.

The staff also arranged trips for us and we were picked up from the hotel.
Absolutley stunning place in the evening its like stepping back in time with the old buildings and horse and carts.
Beds also very comfy best ive had abroad and sheets whiter than white.
