“Good price and quality ratio”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014

In order to find Hotel Dwor Karolowka you have to drive 4 km heading west from Zakopane. The road leading there takes you slowly up the mountain almost up to 900 meters height. The road was narrow but really nice turning and twisting almost all the way until you reach the hotel that is located in the woods just after a corner. It is quite easy to miss it at first until you see the sign and then you have already passed the little road that leads to the hotel.

I was luckily driving quite slowly, because I was looking for the hotel and enjoyed the view. The hotel was located close to the road with a nice little garden in from and some outdoor seating and a fabulous view. There was a huge parking behind the hotel but I choose to park next to the hotel and the stairs that lead to the reception. The hotel was a quite large wooden house, with a lot of angles and a typical mountain design from the area.

I walked up the stairs and entered the hotel and stepped into the wooden house I would have imagined being in the Alps. There was a sweet young woman in the bar who addressed me in fluent English. The check-in went fast and I was given a sheet with house rules and info together with my key to the room that was located on the first floor.

Everything in the house was wooden and quite cozy, and made a quick peek into their restaurant where they also served the breakfast in the morning and it looked quite nice. I decided straight away that there was a good chance that I would dine in their restaurant later that evening. The hallways were pretty dark and they had sensors in the ceilings to turn the light on but they were kind of slow, so there was a tendency that you had to walk some of the distance in the dark.

The reception had given me a real key which is something you get any more. The room was not big, a bit dark and it was quite simple. There was a king size bed that took most of the space in the room, it was pretty low but the mattress was really nice. There was a small desk to sit two persons at: it even had two chairs – like a small dinning table. There was a small drawer with a small flat screen on and not at least a small holder for your bag. The bathroom was nice, it was quite large in size compared to the room. The view from my room was hardly anything to strive after, as I was looking straight into the roof of one the strange angles of the house. It was a neat room where everything worked and I was therefore quite satisfied and especially given the price, that was just around 35 euro.

We stayed at Dwor Karolowka between Christmas 2012 and New Year's 2013. Overall I thought it was pretty good but not without some shortcomings. On the plus side it was reasonably priced, I found the desk staff very pleasant (no communication problems) and I actually thought the food (both the breakfast buffet and dinner) were excellent. On the down side, as many have noted, it is quite a ways out of town. Cabs are not cheap in Zakopane and traffic can be pretty grim during tourist season - especially if you are trying to get through town. Our sons had a decent sized room but the room that my wife and I had was oddly shaped with a low roof we kept hitting our heads on and the bed pushed up against the wall. As another reviewer said, the rooms are also a bit dark and the motion sensor lights in the hallways that flashed on and off had me thinking I was staying at the Overlook Hotel and that Jack Nicholson would come around the corner at me with an axe!

Whenever someone evaluates a hotel or attraction, they bring with them preconceived notions and experiences. We are middle-aged travelers who've visited over 60 countries and look for great locations, pleasant, competent staff, and good value. At the Karolowka Hotel, we found two out of three. The location - out of the hustle and bustle of a very touristy downtown and closer to the hiking trails - was perfect. The staff were pleasant, although it might be useful if they hired someone whose grasp of English was more than just rudimentary. As for value.... well, if you're a backpacker or just flew in from New York City, perhaps the value would be good. For us, it was marginal. The room was so small that you literally could not open the bathroom door all the way. The lighting was so dim as to make reading nearly impossible. The beds looked like something out of summer camp - only about a foot off the floor and barely six feet long. The food was decent, at reasonable prices. The area is well worth a look, but I've got to think there are better values than the Karolowka.

Room Tip: Don't book a twin room - or at least see it first.

This hotel is a bit outside of Zakopane village, but still, if you are a beginner in skiing, its still walking distance to Nosal, one of the smaller & friendly slopes/systems in Zakopane.
The food was "just enough" and priceable. The jacuzzi was awesome and the rooms are exactly what you need.
The staff helpt out with taxis & all other activies that we wanted to do while staying here.

Nice hotel out in the country about 3 miles from Zakpoane. Staff had limited English but were pleasant. There is no elevator to the upper flowers so try a ground floor room if you have luggage. The free parking and internet was great. Breakfast was standard however the evening meal was outstanding. Big rooms

The hotel is situated 3,5km from the city and its noises although the road nearby is quite busy (the road to Cyhrla, Slovakia, Białka T. and Morskie Oko). I liked breakfast, reliable wifi connection in the room, large free carpark, nice staff. The breakfast starts at 8 but they were fortunately ready already at 7.30. There is one trail to the Tatry mountains beginning just near the hotel.

Just returned from a stay in Poland and 4 nights at Dwor Karolowka. We hired a car for our holiday and the free hotel car parking made things so easy. The sat nav had no trouble finding the hotel. We took a taxi into the town centre of Zakopane (3.5kms away) a couple of times which was on average 35 zloty each way. The hotel is in a great location if you want to go to the walking trails of the eastern part of the Tatra Mountains. We used it as a base to go to Morskie Oko, and a couple of the valleys close by. The hotel itself was very good, very clean and well kept - can see that they take pride in keeping a high standard. The staff are fantastic - warm and friendly. All the ones we spoke to also understood English well. We had two rooms. A double and a single. Both had showers and where clean and tidy. The food was of an excellent standard, and very good value for money. The breakfast - included in the price of our rooms was also fantastic - and a great start to each day. Situated in a very peaceful location. The value for money you get at Dwor Karolowka is something very hard to find in a place as touristy as Zakopane is. We will definitely be staying here again in the future. Highly recommended.
