Mercure Kasprowy Zakopane
Ranked #6 of 68 Hotels in Zakopane
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 22 December 2013

I come back to this place year by year and somehow I like it although it is not the best in class. One of Zakopane landmarks, once used perceived as luxury, nowadays provide economy class service. Nevertheless, nothing to complain.

Great location on the side of Szymoszkowa slide (the only hotel in Zakopane with direct access to ski lift - you can leave hotel in skis) - better for winter then for summer time.

Simple and clean room offer the best view in town (it is really worth to invest in rooms with a view). The only thing I really missed are good towels.

Breakfast buffer offer what you need (oh... where is Nutella? :)).

Apres ski: nice swimming pool and sauna - usually empty - old fashion but well kept.

.

Room Tip: any with mountain view

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in late September. The days turned cold with a slight flurry of snow. Our room was unbearably warm, especially the bathroom. It took us a day to figure our how to turn the radiators off, especially because the bathroom radiator was near the ceiling. It was a good thing my husband was tall enough to reach it.

The hotel was in a very scenic area, but up on a hill far from all the activity in town. SWe wouldn't have been able to walk to the market area from the hotel.

There were very few other guests and one morning when we went down for breakfast, there was no coffee beans in the coffee machine. The machine was very nice with lots of different options
(cafe au lait, black, cappachino, etc), but we had to wait until the waitress called someone in charge.

The hotel seems to appeal to skiers and hikers.

Mercure Kasprowy is beautifully situated on the slope of the Szymaszkowa meadow . Remember to ask for a room with a view of the Tatra Mountains. This view is unforgettable. But you will have to pay extra for it(60PLN per night). Our room standard was far away from normal Mercure Hotel standard and sparked the memory of old communistic times. The mattresses on our beds were uncomfortable and made of rubber?. The sofa bed for our big kid was definitely too short for him but despite this he slept very well . This room was too small for 3 persons so it was impossible for a room maid to tidy it up. Now let's go to eat something. The food was delicious and succulent . The restaurant staff were very polite and helpful.
We had the luxury of a swimming pool. We enjoyed it a lot. The surroundings were very clean and the water itself warm enough to have a lot of fun with a stunning Tatra Mountains view.
The reception personnel- trying their best but they still have quite a lot to learn.
So as a summary. Very memorable stay but looking forward to future refurbishments.

Friendly and helpful staff, plus the view over the Tatra Mts. (both from rooms and restaurant) are definitely the strong points. Rooms and bathrooms clean and comfortable. Good place for family stays and conferences. However, there are some "buts" which justify the 'average' rating: (1) nice and silent location but not necessarily the best accessibility - walking to the town centre does take some time and is not worth doing; (2) spatious parking lot - but additionally charged; (3) free Wi-Fi but pretty slow in rooms. Moreover, no AC in rooms, while the hotel is exposed to the South / intensive sunshine. In the past Kasprowy was the most comfortable and prestigious hotel on the PL side of the High Tatra Mts., but nowadays it's slightly dated. The prices might be reasonable for foreign visitors, but slightly too high for an average Polish person. However, the number of competing new hotels in the town and region, often with better location and higher standard, is growing each year, which would have to influence the Mercure Kasprowy pricing policy very soon - check for 'special offers'.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with balcony and mountain view. Smokers may enjoy the top / 7th floor, where smoking i...

This hotel has average rooms that are clean and fairly comfortable. The hair dryer in our room was in sad shape with broken parts. It actually worked but probably not good enough to dry hair. It was also very awkward for left handed people. Our dinner in the restaurant was very good.

Good things:
1) breath taking view over the mountains
2)Clean bathroom
3) enough facilities in the room
4) free WI-FI
5)Friendly stuff

Things that could be better:
1)hotel is not as near to the city as you may think so the fact that parking is not for free is bit disappointing
2) the shuttle is functioning only till 5 pm so if you want to stay in the city longer you can or walk or order a taxi(and the taxi will rip you off as soon as they find out that you don't speak polish )
3) Pillows were not very comfortable, way too soft

Concluding : Great place to stay with excellent service!
