Waiting for evening flight so went to find this garden which is not easily located. There wasan event called Global Village going on which rather detracted from what should have been a restfull visit

Thank Barry W

We came across this garden by chance while we were wandering, didn’t go in immediately as it was about to close so wasn’t worth paying the entry fee. Went back the next day, so glad we did.
The garden is subtly divided into different areas, lawns with flower beds, rockery, lake etc. I was particularly inspired by an area displaying ideas for small gardens using recycled materials as planters.
There are large greenhouses with cacti and succulents, and I was amazed to see an area of insect eating plants growing outdoors.
Two cafe’s, one in the University building with a patio area and one outdoors in the gardens.
My only complaint would be the toilets. The block in the garden is fenced off with building work going on. There are 2 portaloos which were so bad I wouldn’t use them. This meant a fairly long walk to the University, where there are only 2 cubicles available.

We visited the Botanical Gardens on a sunny Sunday this weekend. The gardens weren't too busy and there are actually bigger than they look from the outside, so plenty of space to find a quiet corner to relax.

Having recently visited Kew Gardens in London, they are nowhere near that standard/scale, but I didn't expect so for the entrance fee. There are a few greenhouses, and lots of greenery everywhere - no too much colour, however the lillypond was a highlight. Very pretty.

I would recommend the Botanical Gardens as an oasis of calm behind Cathedral Island.

Thank julie k
