“Fair place, but luxury?”
Reviewed 22 May 2012

We came to Granary because we like to visit small, boutique hotels. Our room was on the fourth floor, with a separate sleeping room and a living room. In the room it was terribly hot, around 29 Celsius. The airco was dead. We reported the failure and the service helped immidiatly. However, the failure was not fixable, so we were offered a free upgrade to the biggest two-levels suite.
That one was much better!
Downstairs there was a bed-room, with tv, a big bathroom with jacussi etc. However, the furniture was not luxurious. Just simple armchairs, nothing special. I mention this becasue they advertise themselves as having uniquely designed furniture. Maybe it is unique, but for sure not luxurious.
Upstairs there was a kitchnette, a big table with 8 chairs, a desk and tv with couch and armchairs (the same quality as these dowstairs) and a little bathroom.
The cosmetics provided were fair, one small bottle of shampoo and one of shower gel. Neither fabulous nor unique.
In the room we had a kattle and a few instant-coffees. In this class of hotel I would expcet a coffee machine with a real coffee. In the morning, when I tries to make some coffee, suddenly the electricity dissapeared. There was some problem with the fuses.
Regarding the room service: on the one hand, some of the employees were kind, qiuck extremaly helpfull, simply great! But in the evenings, some of them seems to be laizy or just unwilling to e.g., remove dishes after the dinner in the room.
Breafast was excellent! A huge variety of all possible meats, cheeses, jams, bakery, sweets, fruits... Everything served deliciously, eggs prepared al-fresco on your eyes. Very nice chef, willing to talk about the food, really passionate of cooking!
So, nice place, but without luxury one might expect checking website.

Lovely hotel close to the city center and very tastefully designed and decorated. Nice and pleasant staff, huge and comfortable room on the first floor. Very quiet as it is located in a little side street. Breakfast was average.

We stayed here during the Easter weekend. The location is great. Quiet but close to the old town within walking distance. The room that we have is ground floor and close to the dinning area. Surprisingly this was not noisy at all. There is a garden but nothing special just a patch of grass. The room is big and modern. Bathroom and the amenities provided is superb. I loved the corner bath in the bathroom. The breakfast is buffet but not a lot of selection however is food is good. The staff is very friendly and always try to help and resolve issues for us. The only thing that I would say is: The Spa should also be open during public holidays. An another drawback is: If the spa is close, then the sauna is closed also. This is not ideal.

I really liked this hotel, it was a short walk to the old town and the rooms large and the bed comfy. The breakfast was enjoyable but not the biggest spread but the service good and staff welcoming. My blinds did not work in my room and the lift kept breaking (staff were very helpful with these problems) but apart from that an enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: try to ask for a room facing away fromt he school!

Lovely hotel - very tasteful re-development of a red-brick 'grain' store with very modern and classy bedrooms (would easily rank as a very strong 4-star in the UK). Don't often find this level of fit-out outside of Warsaw (and even in Warsaw). Situated right in the middle of Wroclaw

Unique building and rooms, nicely furnished, very good location. But on the whole, a disappointment -- far from a 5-star standard:
The reception is in the "basement", one floor down from the entrance. You have to log your luggage down the stairs (or use the wheelchair lift); there's no-one around the entrance to receive you, take care of your luggage or tell you that the reception is in the basement (one can only guess, since there is no other entrance).
Two young men at the reception desk were friendly, but not too attentive. Their English was sufficient. Again, there is no-one to show you to your room or deal with your luggage.
In order to get to my room, I had to traverse the "restaurant": a bistro-type place, perhaps 7 tables, in the basement, no natural light and very little artificial light. Around the kitchen door and into the corridor of the rooms, it smelled very strongly of fish (it was Friday). The next day, the smells of cooking came all the way into my room (the door between the restaurant and the corridor with the rooms is left open all the time).
The key card to the room didn't work. I had to go all the way back to the reception. The receptionist programmed it again -- no excuse, no explanation.
The room was very nice (red-brick vaults as ceiling, very nice and comfortable furniture), but "underground": the window-door led to a small "patio". The view from the room through the door was onto the opposite wall (hence, very little natural light in the room) with 3 windows giving an open view to the "gym"; so all I could see from the window of my room was people working out.
Since there was little natural light in the room, one had to keep the lamps on all the time; they didn't give much light either so one had to turn ALL of them on in order to be able to read. But there was no central light switch around the bed, so at night one had to go around and turn off all the lights individually.
The air-conditioning didn't work: the room temperature was much too warm for sleeping. The reception was friendly, but unhelpful about it: after 2 complaints, nothing changed. There was no way to reduce the temperature of 23 C: whatever one did to the AC panel, the temp. refused to go down. Since the room had a door rather than a window, it was impossible to leave that open at night to get some relief. After 2 days of unsuccessful tampering with the AC, however, I discovered the secret and made it work (the reception still doesn't know that secret).
Internet access worked well by cable, but the wifi connection didn't work (neither on notebook nor on smartphone). I complained about it and the reception said they would have someone check, but nothing happened. The alternative explanation they gave was that the wifi problems were due to the construction of the building (thick old walls ...) -- that was not at all convincing.
In the "restaurant", the young women on duty (always only one at a time) were friendly, but not very professional. They could say standard sentences in English, but not much else (no German at all, though most clients seemed to be German). The music in the restaurant was unbearable -- and the waitress very reluctant to turn it down (and she refused to turn it off). There was also a TV running at all times above the counter, but the sound was mercifully turned off most of the time. The waitress seemed to be the only person on duty -- there was no manager to be seen anywhere, ever.
There wasn't much choice on the menu, but since there were so few customers that was understandable. All the food I ordered, on several occasions, was tasty and well done -- but in no way particularly remarkable.

Room Tip: Ask for a room "above ground", and where the wifi works.
