“Shock!”
Reviewed 2 October 2012

When we arrived in the reception, we were greeted with a strange smell. Everything felt old and looked shabby. That did not change when we went to our room, Oh my god what a shock! The smell is the first thing that hits you, the carpet is old and looks as though it has never been cleaned. I would not walk around without shoes on, the beds remind be of a school trip only singles with the top of your heads touching forget romance. The window opened inward, so you bumped your head in the middle of the night. I was bitten to death while I was there, you don't want to sit down anywhere. The bathroom was very poor and dirty. This is not an experience that I want to forget and never repeat!

Stayed here for several weeks for work and changed several rooms in the meantime. Some rooms are refurbished and very clean, others are quite old and feature a really dirty carpet and a sink - it just your luck here!
However, the hotel staff (receptionists, waiters, security) are all extremely nice and helpful. Not all of them speak good English but they try with the body language then.
Breakfast is weird if you are used to European style of food (croissants, jam, coffee) as they serve salads with tuna and onions, pasta salads, meat balls and cottage cheese (and some other items) from 8 till 10 am. It tastes good but is more suitable for lunch.
The hotel guests can visit the pool for free for 1h per day - great for your health.
The location of the hotel is not the best if you are visiting the city but not a problem if you have a car (parking is for additional fee).
Free wi-fi and special meals in the hotel restaurant - an advantage!

We paid nearly £60 per night which is expensive for the area. The carpet was so dirty I kept shoes on at all times. The bed although clean had holes in the sheets. The food was excellent and the waiters worked long long hours.
There was no welcoming smile or hope you enjoyed your stay. They have a long way to go to match many of the less expensive Polish hotels.
We won't be back.

I've stayed in the Hotel Gem a number of times & found it to be a very basic, clean, safe and affordable hotel - although the decor would remind you more of a sports hall or public builiding. The rooms are literally a bed and bathroom with very functional linen / bedding.

The restaurant is very very basic and the bar is literally 3 stools against the counter. I have eaten there but its not the kind of place that you would relax in - its functional food. The staff on reception speak fluent English and are extremely helpful.

There is no social element to the hotel - its fine if you just want somewhere to sleep & wash.

There are tennis courts & football pitches onsite and on a number of occasions there have been junior compeitions on in the hotel when I visited.
