Stinks of old oil. Overall look is like it was not cleaned since restaurant's start-up. But yes - portions are big ;-)

“We just kept coming back”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

My partner and I fell in love with Karczma after the first visit there 2 years ago. I know Polish cuisine well and I must say that this place always impresses me with something really delicious.
My fiancee really enjoyed the potato pancakes with meat stew (placki po zbojecku) and the prunes with bacon. We also loved pierogi.
Generally we are back in Karczma pod strzecha whenever we are in Plock :)

“Best place in Płock”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2013

Probably the best place in Płock. Although it's a bit far from the city center it's still worth the distance. Great food, prices ok, good service and a nice and cozy atmosphere. Try the chef's special dressing salad and the steaks.

“Good Polish food enclave on the Plock’s kebab/pizza invasion area!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 December 2012

We walk by Tumska str – which is a main Plock’s promenade and on a 500m distance we passed by only ONE restaurant which was a PUB!!! Shame!
When we reach Old Town and turn right into Grodzka Str, on the next 250m we passed by only Kebab, Pizza/Pasta and one Oriental place. Shame!
The only local food place we finally found was “Pod Strzechą”. Nice warm restaurant with extremely polite and customer oriented personnel. We ordered clear chicken soup with homemade noodles, and beef slips (zrazy wolowe) with buckwheat groats (kasza gryczana), tasty sauce, and warm beetroot salad (buraczki) and pickled cucumber (ogorek kiszony). Thanks to God we skipped dessert, since main course was really big portion. Everything was tasty and in reasonable prices.
If you visited Plock and would like to try something different than kebab, pizza, pasta or spring rolls – We strongly recommend you restaurant “Pod Strzechą”!

Note to Mayor of Plock: This is a shame!!! Huge SHAME! The Duke Capital City of Płock and former capitol of Mazovia Province has so small offer of Polish/Regional food especially in the Old Town part of city. City Councilors it is time for changes especially before a next summer tourist season!!!
