“Not many animals”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

We had intended to ride the alpine coaster at Malta Lake but found it closed weekdays so decided to visit the zoo instead. Entrance was only 15 zloty (approx. £3) which is just as well as there either weren't many animals or they were very good at playing hide and seek! Most cages had solitary animals, apart from 2 meerkats, 4 elephants and 5 camels. However the elephant house is the most modern I've ever seen and obviously cost a lot of money. Very impressive with both indoor and outdoor viewing platforms. There is also a train that does a circuit of the zoo. Again with new looking stations with scrolling display boards stating the time of the next train. It takes around 25 minutes to cover the whole zoo by train. There were limited food options available the day we visited - just one cafe between the elephants and camels and one hot dog kiosk near the meerkats. But all in all a cheap way to spend a couple of hours.

“The zoo is huge but don't be fooled”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2014

The area and expanse of Poznan zoo is really impressive, it's set in a really green area that is quite wild in some parts, giving a botanical feel. Don't be fooled though, it's not full of animals - the animal enclosures are quite far apart and I was quite shocked when I first wanted to see the elephants and the sign read 'elephants 1400m'. To visit this zoo you really need a whole day and good weather to enjoy the walk and surroundings as well as looking at the animals. There is a 'train' on wheels that goes around quite regularly and transports you from one area to another for those with kids, or those just with tired legs - beware though, during the summer months when the zoo is busy the transport fills up quickly and it is not always possible to fit on!

Some of the animal enclosures are really small in my opinion - the tigers and elephants have nice new enclosures but a lot of the other animals are in small inadequate enclosures... which I didn't like to see.

The area with the bugs and insects was completely neglected, overpopulated and there were a lot of dead things in there. Horrible! How often to they feed/clean/check on those??

From the 3 times I have been to the zoo, only once I have seen the butterfly house open! Disappointed because it really is a very nice experience seeing all the butterflies around you. I have also never seen the giraffes because I have never been able to work out how to get to them, the signposting in the zoo is quite poor and because of the long distances between each thing I think it's very easy to get lost. Maybe a map on entrance would be helpful?? I bought a booklet, but it wasn't helpful as a map really and as a foreigner it was even less useful.

There are a lot of positives about the zoo too, I did enjoy my time there - I travelled on the Maltanska railway from Rondo Srodka, which was fun and less walking! Its a shame it's not running all year round because the public transport to the new zoo is terrible.

I would go again when I find myself without anything to do on a sunny day - but I'll put on my walking shoes next time and take a picnic :) It's not expensive, so I'll be there again in the future.

“An incredible and green zoo”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

The entire zoo was incredible and the nature around it is magnificent. There is a vast variety of animals (although there are not incredibly rare) and there are many inside activities for children. A really nice plus is the inside train that transfers you to the other side of the zoo! The zoo is pretty big (around 2 kilometres in length), so comfortable shoes are a must!

“disapointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2014

many of the enclosures were empty, the new part of the zoo housing the elephants, camels etc makes the old parts look really old. Its a long way round but if you are unable to walk the distance there is a free train just hop on and off at the stops around the zoo. Entrance fee very reasonable.

“Just a standard zoo for a long walk”

Just a standard zoo. It has a potencial. It's big so you can go for a long walk. It looks kind of empty.
