Stayed 2 nights June,Room was very basic but clean, room looks bit dated..actually very comfy bed..great position for old town, literally 5 minute walk across the road so no need for taxi etc.only staff member really talked to was the slightly grumpy old barman who always seemed a little stressed but funny. Breakast was cold meats and breads etc with great staff.the hotel is what I expected and would class it as a clean, friendly LOW budget hotel with great position for town & touristy bits..don't forget you will need to pay for car park at the front f the hotel..cost me approx 60pzl for 3 days.

I stayed there in December with my girlfriend during 1 night. The hotel is very very good location (near the centrum of the city). The rooms are very elegant and large. The food was very tasty. The hotel staff from the beginning was very helpful and courteous. I would definitely stay there one more time.

This the old furnished hotel.
Key card is necessary to turn on clima/light - during winter, when you go out you must take your card and during this period clima/heating doesn't work. When you come back after a few hours the temerature in your room drops i.e. from 21 to 17C.
Good location - near Old Town. easy access from every direction.

The Mercure hotel in Torun is part of the Accor chain. It’s average but ideally located at the outskirts of the old town of Toruń.

Our room was located on 5th floor and at the front on the hotel which meant we had a great view of the old town. Surprisingly there was not much street noise.

The bed was not very comfortable and it was not in the middle of the room as you would expect in hotel rooms. The bed had one side up against the wall so it wasn’t very practical especially if someone needed to get up during the night. This also meant that there was no second side lamp.
The A/C unit controller was complicated and perhaps was just there as decoration because it was impossible to change the temperature. It seemed that the room air-conditioning was set up for certain temperature.

The bathroom was full of amenities and they were a good size. The only negative part about the bathroom was the towels. For this type of quality hotel they were absolutely disgusting. They were washed- out, very thin and it was hard to get dry with them. (Is this hotel under the same management like the Ibis Budget in Szczecin??- see my other review)
The breakfast was not included in the room price and while we were checking in we decided not to eat in the hotel. Knowing how cheap food is in general in Poland the hotel’s breakfast was overpriced. It’s just a short walk to the old town and there are many places offering great food for much less.
A few more negatives to let you know about. The amount of tea bags and coffee provided in the double room for two people was one black tea, one green tea and peppermint tea bags and a little bit of instant coffee and two tiny containers of milk. When we asked the receptionist for some more black tea (we don’t drink herbals or green) and some milk we were told that she can not do anything and she herself had to drink peppermint. So we waited for the second tea bag till housekeeping came around the next day. When the maid brought us “more tea” it was one tea bag exactly. Finally we decided to say something again to the reception staff and only then did we receive more tea and milk. Housekeeping didn’t look too pleased to be bringing it to us.

The other negative was that the Mercure charged us twice. Normally we do not check our bank account but this time my husband was checking something else when he discovered that the hotel charged us twice! Fortunately we did get our money back but we had to ring the hotel. I am going to hope that this doesn’t happen to everyone and was just a one off error.

Paid parking. It could be free for the hotel guests.

Finally it’s not a bad hotel. There are a few things they could improve on. The location is pretty good.

A large hotel situated on the north west edge of old Torun with the main railway station in the south east. So, on the map, about as far apart as they could be. A large metal bridge separates them and when we arrived on Thursday late afternoon 6 September we got caught up in Torun's rushhour traffic. So allow more time at peak periods to get to this hotel. No problem on the Saturday morning and the taxi whisked us back to the Station. Taxi in cost PLN 22 and back PLN 13.

The hotel on our two nights seemed full, with 3 or 4 coaches parked outside, and lots of cars. so much so we got a room only through the Novotel reservations manager in Krakow organising it. We were delighted to find it was a suite (220) comprising sitting room, bedroom (one double bed), bathroom with toilet, and a separate toilet too. Lots of cupboard space. We were very comfortable.

Front desk staff were friendly and helpful but the bar and breakfast staff barely smiled and did not seem to gel as a team. Some of the old Communist-era attitudes to customers seemed to be present.

Breakfast buffet was well laid out. Good ranges of cheeses. Some individual fruits. Nice breads. Coffee from the machine stronger than weak liquid in jugs. Price PLN 40 so, at £7, cheap by standards in western Europe.

There was a free internet terminal with printer at the side of Reception. It worked well.

Overall we paid PLN 250 (under £50) per night plus breakfast. Very good value for this standard of hotel. In Paris I pay 3 or 4 times this at Mercure hotels!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel have views towards old town
