“Terrible, communist service by the management”
Reviewed 5 October 2009

The hotel looks great and in many ways it is. Beautiful building, great rustic feel and a wonderful location overlooking the River Vistula. However, everything is let down by the incompetance, rudeness and general behaviour of the management (particularly the female manager of the restaurant). We recently enquired about having a wedding at the hotel (many people have had in the past). The manageress was very abrupt and rude and immediately was uninterested (when we told her we were only going to have 50 guests).

On a separate occasion, my wife was rushed to hospital for swallowing a stem of thyme which had become lodged in her throat. The chefs use thyme for seasoning but its very dangerous by the fact that they put loads of stems in the dish. My wife's meal was ruined. We swiftly complained...but it took ages to get a response. Eventually when we did it wasn't really so much of an apology.

The menu in the restaurant is also very misleading. The price for the meat is per weight. So depending on the size of the meat your bill could be much more at the end of the night.

The accommodation area is lovely but the smell from the kitchens below are quite intense and off putting.

All in all...forget this hotel!!

Our stay at hotel Spichrz was very enjoyable. Great location, steps away from the old town and Wisla river. Our room was spacious and very clean. Gleaming hardwood floors, elegant timber furniture, comfortable beds and good quality linens. The bathroom was on the small scale, no bath tub, very tight shower. Beware of the low beams!

The reception staff was very accommodating and courteous. The breakfast buffet offered a great selection of egg dishes, cold cuts, breads, pastries and fruits.

For an unforgettable dining experience try the restaurant downstairs offering traditional Polish cuisine. The portions are huge and can be easily shared. The perogies with forest mushrooms are delicious!

Spent 09/10 July at this excellent establishment. It is well situated inside the city walls on the banks of the Vistula. A short walk into the main square. Hotel is a converted grain mill with a long history. We originally only reserved one night but opted to stay a second. Reception were unable to keep us in the double room but moves us to a twin. Each was a very different shape but both with all the same facilities including flat screeen TV. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice on the buffet. Staff friendly and welcoming and we would happily stay here again. Also they have a small car park for Zlt 15 per day.

in 2008 we had Polish - Irish wedding in Torun. In search for the place to stay we came across Spichrz hotel. The property looked really amazing, great location, very nice rooms.
At the end we booked around 10 rooms for the family and friend.
Our family arrived 3 days before the wedding. The woman at the reception couldn't speak English which made things little bit awkward. Our family was told that the hotel will provide bottles of water every day free of charge as the water from the tap is not safe to drink. Don't have to tell you how surprised we were when at the end of every day we received a bill to pay for something that was to be free of charge. The staff were very rude,
on couple of occasions we had to ask for management to get things done.
The hotel misplaced my husband's to be wedding suite and he ended up running around the hotel trying to find it.
On so many occasions we asked for taxis and they were never organized, we never received room service which we asked for ,we had to ask for towels to be changed.
I would never stay in Spichrz hotel, I would never recommend it to anyone.
Some of my family stayed at the Heban hotel just up the road and they received fantastic service.

This hotel is just simply the best place to eat and stay in in Torun. We recently had a family wedding there and all I can say is it is the most wonderful character filled restaurant/hotel we have ever stayed in. There were 75 in our wedding party which was maximum it could hold. The effort they put into decorating the restaurant, the standard of food and the professionalism of the hotel Manageress Christina – well she was as good as a wedding planner as a Manageress . I wish I could give this little gem of a place more than 10 out of 10 it deserved it. Our stay during the course of the wedding from time of arrival to departure was the most pleasant experience we have ever had. We had many nationalities there, and they all had to say the same about it. – All I can say is don’t miss it if you visit Torun or you will have missed an absolutely superb restaurant and hotel.

Hello, I had to visit Poland recently because a family member was in hospital for a short period. During our stay we visited the beautiful Historical town of Torun and the old town is particularly beautiful. Polish people are so helpful and friendly with a superb knowledge of the english language no matter where you go. We were lukcy enough to get a very kind and knowledgeable taxi driver who recommended the restaurant at the Spichrz hotel. To begin with we were apprehensive thinking oh a taxi driver will drop us at a real tourist trap and probably get a little money in return from the establishment. How wrong we were!! The food was absolutely delicuous, the waiters wonderful, friendly and helped in choosing and explaining the polish dishes. I can recommend the duck. Prices were reasonable and before we left the waiter showed us around the various rooms in the restaurant that are available for private parties and functions. I will definately return and that is within two weeks and I look forward to staying in the Hotel onl my visit. I cannot recommend it highly enough. 10 out of 10

We spent a fabulous week at the Spichrz Hotel in Torun over the period December 28 th 2006 - January 4th 2007.
The hotel is well positioned in the Old part of beautiful Torun on the banks of the Vistula.
The hotel was "top notch"in terms of accomodation - we had a studio for 4 people although there were just 3 of us in the party.
Food was plentiful and excellent for both breakfast and dinner.
We had a family meal (for our Polish relatives in Torun) - about 20 of us.
We were treated fabulously - musicians even appeared - unforgettable meal in the most interesting of surroundings and served most efficiently by Polish waiters.
Facilities are very good with lift access to upper studios which was great for my elderly father.
Father still raves about the standard of hotel and the welcoming atmosphere that we each experienced.
Receptionist girls were absolutely brilliant with good English, broad smiles and extremely helpful in assisting us with enquiries.
Prices are really very reasonable even by Polish costs.
Wireless/broadband speed internet access in all rooms, cleaned meticulously every day and towels and bedding refreshed as needed.
Dining was really great and my son particularly enjoyed experimenting with Polish food and sampling local wodka and Polish beers(He is a young adult!).
I assisted enthusiastically in the sampling.
We'll be back!
Special thanks to Paulina, Jola and Anna!
