The royal castle was rebuild after WWII, in an absolutely beautiful fashion! It's situated in Old Town and that is noticable by all the colors. It's facing a big square with views over the riverside and the stadium.
I was here on a sunday, when the admission for the royal castle is free! It was quite a happy surprise, as I didn't know this, otherwise the admission is 20 zloty which still is pretty cheap for what you get to see inside the castle! Grandeur, gold everywhere, frescos on ceilings and everything fit for royalty. There are a number of different rooms to walk through and each one is grand and luxurious.
After the tour through the 'regular' area of the castle you head down to the art exhibition, containing many portraits of Polish royalty but also two pieces from Rembrandt, knowingly "Girl in the picture frame" and "Scholar at his writing table".
Absolutely worth visiting and spending some time if you love watching an abundance of gold and other sparkling things and a few really good collections of art. Otherwise, if you don't feel like hanging around too long, visit on the free sundays. It's busier but you can still walk around quickly. Not to mention the castle itself and the surrounding area are gorgeous enough to spend hour after hour!
