This hotel could be absolutely stunning, unfortunately the facilities, furnishings, staff and general organisation let it down.
The location is breathtaking, it is in a quiet part of Bled with views that you won’t forget.
We had suite 107, the suite was huge with a wrap around balcony. The view was beautiful, we could see all of Lake Bled, the island and the castle.
The rooms in the suite were tired and dated with basic bathroom facilities. The shower was in the bath and flooded the bathroom.
Breakfast was adequate, staff are indifferent and I would say slightly institutional.
This hotel could be 5 star perfect if owners got their act together

Room tip: Get a lake view

Dear guests,

thank you for your review. It is very valuable for us, to see things from your point of view.
We have to stress out, that Vila Bled is a historic hotel, if you expect a modern hotel with gadgets, you will be slightly dissapointed. Guests, who love to step back in time and feel the 60s-70s, will love their stay.
Nevertheless, we wish every guest to feel welcome at our hotel, so we sincerely hope you are going to visit us again some day.

This hotel is very well situated at the end of the lake closest to the island and well away from the casino, souvenir shops and crowds ( although, we were told, it does get crowded by the lake near here but not so much in May). The views are amazing and its worth asking for a lake view. We found the service to be very good - our bags were installed in our room when we arrived from our trek and within minutes we were enjoying a cold beer on the terrace next to where Tito created his private restaurant, overlooking the island and church. Snow topped mountains all around.
The room was standard. Bathroom a bit small. The first night of our package included dinner in the restaurant. The food was average although the service was first rate. A fairly bland soup followed by Veal and then, curiously, a fish course, pan fried salmon - all fine but not special. The dessert was a red berry tart with a little pile of pineapple on the side. Not to our taste. We had a good bottle of Slovenian red wine and a stroll down to the lakeside. All very pleasant. Breakfast was pretty average too. A range of cold meats, smoked salmon and cheese and some hot dishes. Unspeakable coffee. It was early in the season but the hotel seemed very empty - only 8 people, including us, in the restaurant and the bar deserted. Not many for breakfast. We found a nice lively restaurant nearby for the second night of our stay (Sova) and the bar Mlino for lunch and pre dinner drinks. Worth staying at this hotel for the views and peaceful location.

Dear Glinys, thank you for taking your time and writing a review.
True, early in the season it is a little bit quiet, but some guests like that a lot. :)
Thank you for staying with us!

If you want the best view of Lake Bled from your room, this is the spot. But the service offered at this 5 star prices resort does not match up with the price you will pay. The location was understaffed to the point of not even having someone that could help us with our luggage because there was only one staff member on staff during check-out time (staff’s words to me). Also we were heavily questioned when we reported to the front desk that we did not have towels in our room. The building and location are majestic but the experience (part of what you pay for) was poor.

Dear DrMarkG,
thank you for sharing your experience with us. We hope guests are not coming to Vila Bled just for the views.
We want every guest to feel welcome and happy to have stayed with us. For sure there has been a misunderstanding about the towels, as there is never a problem to get more, if guests need them. Unfortunally your experience with us was not perfect and we are sorry for that. Hope we will ever have the opportunity to change that impression.

Vila Bled was Tito's summer home, and is definitely an unappealing Communist-style monstrosity from the outside. On the inside, you'll find an upscale, comfortable hotel with friendly service.

The location is perfect for the most beautiful views of Bled Island, and is probably the closest hotel to the island itself. You'll want to book a room with a balcony and lake/island view to take full advantage. Being close to the island, however, means you are a bit of a distance to the main "town center" area. We could walk to two restaurants, Sova and Pension Mlino (see separate reviews), but it would have been much farther to a greater selection. To get to this area, you might prefer to drive and then find street parking. Note that the parking is 2 euros per hour and you'll want to have coins handy for this (nearby merchants were not interested in making change for us).

Our check in experience was very positive. The friendly staff warned us that there was a big event going on that evening (birthday or anniversary celebration--he was not sure) and that it could be noisy. We did, in fact, hear the noise and were thankful for the warning. Luckily, the fan in the room drowned out the worst of it.

Our room had a balcony with a perfect view of Bled Island, exactly what we had booked and what he hoped for. In addition to the comfortable beds, the room had a desk, chair, and spare chair. The fan was much appreciated. The wifi was good, and the room quiet overall (except for the above situation mentioned). A downside was that outdoor lighting on the property made it bright in the room all night, even with all the curtains drawn.

The bathroom had a poor design that resulted in the shower water getting the floor wet. You also were forced to close the bathroom door in order to move around at all in the bathroom.

Breakfast was fair, but we expected more from such a highly rated hotel. There were eggs, hot dogs, cheese and hams, some sweets and bread, cereal apples, pineapple and melon. My husband was disappointed that there was no bacon.

We did not eat dinner at the hotel but were pleased with the recommendation the hotel gave us as an alternative. When we glanced in the dining room upon our return in the evening, there were only two tables taken and it looked rather sad and lonely. The menu we had seen posted for Saturday night had only three entrees to choose from. I don't know if that is the usual selection.

Hotel Vila Bled is THE place to stay in Lake Bled if you want to be up close and personal with Bled Island, which we did. Just be sure to book the proper room for an awesome balcony and view. Enjoy!
