“A total Christmas experience”
Reviewed 28 January 2011

We stayed at the Golf Hotel for several days over Christmas as part of a tour. Apart from abrupt staff at reception we found all other staff good.
Our room overlooked the lake and the view was so incredible, whether fine, misty or snowing that we found we continually kept going to the window or out on the balcony to enjoy it. The room was clean, spacious, quiet and well presented. There was a lounge and small table and plenty of hanging space - useful when staying several days. The bathroom was adequate. There was no refrigerator in the room but because it was so cold we could leave our drinks outside on the balcony to chill.

We were a short stroll to the lake and several food shops, a supermarket, tourist information and attractions such as a local market in a nearby hotel and small boats to take us out to the church on the island. Walk up to the castle and see the most interesting print shop and the views. On the way down have a meal at a local cafe or restaurant.
The Christmas festivities here were wonderful. We enjoyed concerts, fireworks, a local "sinking of the bell" ceremony amongst others. Also on Christmas Day staff had placed a hand made christmas stocking with mandarins and chocolates on each door!

As most meals were included in our package we mainly ate at the hotel. Most meals were buffets, and despite the large number of people staying, the food was always fresh and plentiful, with an impressive array of dishes for all meals. The dining room staff were most professional, continually replenishing the buffet, taking drink orders and clearing tables as we ate. They were also most helpful in explaining unusual local dishes.
Wi-fi access was only available in the lounge downstairs but at least there was access. We found some hotels we stayed in did not have any free access. There was also a computer available to check emails in this area.

If you are after a complete Christmas package this is the place to go! At other times book a room overlooking the lake and enjoy the view.

Do not accept room 305 or its equivalent on any floor. It is smaller than the standard rooms. The bathroom is teeny and the toilet is shoehorned in so that you must sit sideways. You can hear flushing and noise from the rooms on either side. The room has a balcony that overlooks the front of the hotel and parking lot. I was with a group, so had no choice and there was no option to move. If you have a choice, request a room with a view of the lake.

The hotel restaurant is good, but expensive, a better choice is one of the numerous nearby cafes. The spa runs “specials” so look for flyers in your room or in the elevator. Spa services are excellent, very professional and there is a relaxing room where you can have juice before/after your treatment.

There are two computers just off the lobby with free internet.

If you walk around Lake Bled, stop at Pension Zaha (next to a school) for a well-prepared meal and great desserts. The walk around the lake is wonderful and paved so you don’t need boots or walking stick. There are benches along the way so you can sit to take in the views. On weekends, artists set up along the walkway.

You can also make a stop at Hotel Villa Bled, the former home of President Tito now a boutique hotel. This would be a great place to stop for lunch or afternoon coffee/tea. Be sure to go upstairs and see the political-themed frescoes in the dining room

this is perfectly adequate but nothing special. Some rooms have air con, some don't. It's is a quiet setting with lovely views of the lake. Several steps down to the Lake, or a few minutes walk downhill along the road. Food ok, but better restaurants nearby. Pool area child friendly - noisy and not a place to relax. They has some activities for guests that looking interesting (torch light walks around the lake, guided nature walks, bike rides but didn't have the chance to sample them.

Spent a few days here with the family having been 'bumped' from Hotel Toplice due to building works. Did not get a lake view as promised, but view from back towards mountains pretty good anyway. A few other people have commented on unhelpful staff, but we found them all very helpful especially Anna on reception. Breakfast offered everything we could want with some odd local touches like saltanas in the omellettes, but that's part of the fun of going abroad isn't it? There have been other comments on site about poor food quality in Bled. Guess we were lucky then, as ALL our meals were excellent. Bled, the lake and nearby Vintgar Gorge are beautiful, and worth getting the hiking shoes out. Enjoy.

I guess the star rating of hotels is bumped up by things like having a pool and a relaxation centre, which the Golf does. But other than that, this hotel is straight out of the 60s, which is when it was built. There is no air-con in the rooms (the temperature outside was around 38 degrees on some days), but the noise from Bled nightlife travels well up the hill so it was impossible to have the balcony door open for air - so I slept badly. The rooms are also very functional - no pictures, no frills, brown decor, watery and generic toiletries (no moisturiser). I was woken at 8am on the first morning by the chambermaid just barging into my room without knocking to clean it (!) - and when I asked, my friends said the same had happened to them in their rooms, too.

The breakfast was average but passable, the buffet dinner was terrible (mass produced food on heat lamps - I've eaten better school dinners), and the a la carte meal in The Veranda restaurant was shockingly bad (we were severed 'meat', but the waiter refused to elaborate on what type of meat it was). And the waiters were very grumpy and smile-free. However, in fairness, all the food in Bled was inedible, not just at Golf!

The pool was lovely though (if you overlook the communal changing rooms), and the water shute was fun. The treatment I had in the wellness centre was excellent and very good value - I'd definitely recommend the spa facilities.

Bled is a lovely place to visit for a night or two, but I think you could find much better value and comfort at one of the other hotels in the town. There are plenty to choose from, and I don't think this was the best. It was average but not special. Certainly not what an English person thinks a four star hotel would be. Not good value for money.

We stayed in the adjoining Golf Apartment Complex and were able to use all the hotel facilities daily. If you like relaxing and friendly people then this is the place for you. Nice big apartments set in the hotels' quiet grounds. Good restaurant in hotel with extensive buffet breakfast, you need to be fairly early though. Good selection of traditional slovenian & european dishes for the evening hot buffet. Very nice 'Boutique' style brasserie downstaires, definately worth the extra. Amazing indoor spa & pool areas, hydro therapy & massage. Possibly 50 steps down to the Bled Plaza which is surrounded by bars, restaurants & posh shops. the ideal place to 'people' watch and refresh or relax. Across the road is the casino which comes to life at night with techno pop pumping out across the Plaza, and then the lake itself. Stunning, spring, summer, autumn, winter this place will take your breath away.

I travelled to Lake Bled with my husband and two friends in June. The hotel looks ugly from the outside but is ok inside. We did not have a lake view room or air con but the view was fine and because we were on the 5th floor we felt happy to leave the patio doors open all night and had no trouble sleeping. The room was big with a sofa and table at one end and the balcony was also a good size The bathroom was fine. All kept very clean and tidy every day.
Breakfast was very average. I expected more choice for a 4* hotel. We did not eat dinner in the hotel we ate out.
We used the pool facilities which were good, again very clean . The pool area is mainly indoor . It has lots of sun loungers inside and out but no outside pool ( well there is actually but its tiny). We did not use the spa but it looked inviting.
Lake Bled is a beautiful place. It is nice to walk around the Lake where you can call in for refreshments or food at three or four bars and restaurants along the way . We also walked to the Vintgar Gorge which is worth a visit. We did the usual touristy things like hiring a boat on the lake to go to the island and visited the castle. We hired bikes for a couple of days which we really enjoyed and went rafting which wasn't "white water" but was good fun.
The restaurants we enjoyed the most were the mexican called Chilli and a pizza place called Rustica.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. We travelled with Inghams Lakes and Mountains which we thought was a good price and had no hitches with regard to the journey . The Rep was also very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.
We would like to return someday but may stay in the Penzion Mayer which we could see from our balcony . It looked very nice and gets good reviews.
