Vintgar is absolutely gorgeous and easy to access on foot from Bled. When we were looking up info on walking there however we really struggled so I thought I would share our experiences for anyone else thinking of walking.

First, there are two routes to the gorge; both start by heading up the hill behind Bled towards St Martins Church and taking a right turn signposted for driving to to Podhom and a walking signpost to Vintgar. A few minutes down and the road splits into a Y and both routes take you to the gorge.

The left fork is quite easy and takes you to the touristy car-park side of the gorge - this is down a wide road through fields then some smaller villages with just a couple of hills to conquer. It is very well sign posted and pleasant.

This is the route we took, and then after walking to the other end of the gorge where the main waterfall is we took the other route back to do a big loop. Firstly, we nearly missed the exit for the path! When you reach the cafe/cabin which signals the other end of the gorge look for a right turn up some steps; the sign post for Bled is actually a sign hanging from the roof of the cabin which is why we had trouble finding it.

The next thing to note about this other route is that it is far steeper and less 'easy' than the first. It goes through a woods (one of the signs to Bled was just painted onto a tree) and is about 20 minutes of going just uphill. It had been raining the day before and it was incredibly muddy in places so good shoes are essential. When we finally reached the top there was a lovely panorama across the valley (that was worth the trip up), then a fairly steep decline down through the villages back to Bled. Again the route was easy to follow but it was far more taxing and if you aren't looking for an energetic walk then it would be much easier to go back through the gorge and take the other route back again.

We loved the walk and it took us around 3 hours total to do the whole loop, including dawdling time in the gorge taking photos!

Vintgar Gorge is located about 30 to 40 minutes away from the town of Bled and is simply a must do if you are in the area.

It is very beautiful and a provides for a very peaceful and relaxing walk as you take it the scenery. The walk is easy and most of it is a man made boardwalk with only a few stairs here and there.

The bus leaves at 10am and leaves again at 12 (from memory) so you don't have a huge amount of time there but it is more than enough to see the gorge and all of its beauty.

If you are in decent shape and have a few hours to spare the gorge is worth a visit. Photographs do not do it justice.

Visited the gorge on the 1st July. It is quite a different way of viewing a gorge as they have constructed a boardwalk around the rock faces of the gorge. It is quite spectacular and well worth a visit. Wear good walking shoes and keep a good watch on your kids cause there are some big drops and slippery paths. I really enjoyed it and it was nice and cool. Dont pushbike there like we did unless you are really fit, I think there is a bus from Bled to the gorge for about 2 euro's one way.
