Cant recommend highly enough - Grega is a fantastic guide - great guy, perfect english and shared loads of interesting information about the local area and National park, making the ride feel like much more than a just a cycle! I did a 5 hour mountain bike ride, with challenging uphills, fast and exciting downhills and spectacular scenery. Their rental bike was good quality, full suspension. Grega knows the area inside out and had loads of tips for new routes, so I'll definitely be calling him the next time Im back in the area! Brilliant afternoon!

We had all the maps, read the guide books and had our low-key cycling tour plans sorted, we just needed a couple of solid touring bikes to complete the list.

The 'Hike and Bike' shop was spotted in lakeside resort of Bohinj, it was so small we were not confident that they could help us with anything other than a sit-up-and-beg antique. If you are into Dr. Who and his time machine the ‘Tardis’, you will understand a small exterior can be more than misleading.

Grega, “call me Greg” offered us a whole range of different bikes, even one which fitted into a back pack. That was not the only strange point; they had no pedals as they were downhill only – very much the leading edge (fashionable) kit.

Conventional bikes sorted, we asked a few questions about the locality, it was like turning on a tap; the information flowed and everything we were seeking was covered. Little did we know he was also a qualified guide who could advise on every aspect of making this a memorable trip. That was not the end of it, we had mentioned our interest in wild flowers which started off another note taking session. The best was yet to come.

That evening was the launch of the Wild Flower Festival, a pan-European endeavour to preserve precious plant habitats from Scotland to Romania with Prince Charles somewhere in the middle. Greg suggested we should attend the opening ceremony; no tickets needed, first come, first served.

What an evening, a real variety theatre production, a few short speeches, followed by a whole spectrum of performances from school children dancing through to a side-splitting comedy/ music routine by a professional team with more in between. It ended with an invitation to step outside to join in a buffet supper with a difference, as an act of humorous revenge, a dish that included one of the most intrusive, destructive and dreaded plants; the Japanese knot weed plant.

The buffet was great, including the Japanese knot weed dish, good wine flowed generously served in large, elegant glasses. I am sure not one was broken and none stolen; try that anywhere else. Again, there was no charge. These people are certainly a bit cuckoo but they are great and generous hosts as well.

See you next year Greg; your recommendations fitted the bill exactly but we will stick to bikes with pedals.

We would thoroughly recommend first timers to contact Greg before you book as his 'one stop shop' will freely provide information on anything from a cycling itinerary to accommodation.

It was all very last minute: I called in on the morning that I fancied a ride and within five minutes I had a trip booked that day and a bike (a good one) provided. The cost was very good and Grega is a fantastic guide tailoring the ride to suit your abilities. He put me through my paces over four hours in the most stunning scenery imaginable and smiled all the way giving me information about the various places we visited.

Sign up, it's worth it.

We did one day family trip around the Bohinj area, visiting all the great places and secret spots with the amazing expertise of Grega who will explain everything about the valley, culture and nature. Definietly a must do activity while in Bohinj. Ask for special bike rides or be more adventurous with the new hike&bike vehicle. Thanks a lot for your help and kindness.
