Owner description: At an altitude of 1611 metres, the mountain pass at Vrsic is the highest in the eastern Julian Alps and provides a natural link between the Savska and the Soska valleys. You may wish to have a relaxing cup of coffee or even stay the night at the Ticarjev mountain hut, which is located at the top of the pass. There are five mountain huts on Vrsic offering you rest and refreshment. Just off the main road winding up Vrsic, at an altitude of around 1200 metres rests the Russian chapel. Whilst ascending Vrsic, you can admire the natural rock-carved face of the lovely maiden Ajdovska deklica and a natural rock-window created in the face of the Prisank mountain.

Vršic is just one of the places you really must not miss when visiting this area, a series of 50 hairpin bends 25 up and 25 down is quite a challenge for first time drivers in the region but still attainable with care. There is a small charge for parking at the top, If the local full size coaches can manage it then a normal family saloon can.
Which brings us to travelling up by bus. You can take a stress free ride over the Vršic pass by bus either on an organised tour "The julian Alps" or just the local bus that goes to Bovec. The journey up is so taxing for the driver that he has a half hour stop at the top to recover. But these drivers are exceptional and it is worth the trip to see.
Over the years you can do things different, one easy way is to bus it up and then walk down savouring the spectacular views. The hardest is to walk up the marked trails form KG.

The winding road up to the pass is good, each bend numbered (I think 24 in total) and altitude shown. Walked up through the forest from the Russian Chapel.

The way up the versic pass is tricky and a bit dangerous- drive slow!
We came from kranska gora and continued to bovec.
The way up and down in hard (Abby car)- but worthy!
I also think this is the best way and less dangerous... That's what we thought...

The views are just amazing !!!

We drove from monfalcone in Italy to bled, and decided to drive this route, by luck and guess work, rather than good planning. One word- amazing!

The views are stunning, we stopped c.10 times to admire and take a photo. If you have a car, you should drive this route (or better yet a bike!), a fair few extreme cyclists were taking it on, but that's not for me.

Emerald rivers, great views, what's not to like.
