My wife and myself were returning to this hotel for our third stay in six years .. this in itself gives an impression of our satisfaction with this establishment. The name has changed from the 'Hotel Grand Prisank' but the customer service is as good as ever. The staff are both efficient and welcoming and most speak very good English. We made our booking through Inghams as on the previous two occasions. We were used to the 'free drink with meal' and 'free tea and cake in afternoon' and 'free packed lunch' package but be aware that since the hotel has been 'absorbed' by Ramada, Inghams were unable to secure all of these extras, so we were told at reception. However, in our case, since we had booked very early from a brochure identifying these extras as being included, a phone call from reception to the Inghams Rep secured these items for us.

Rooms were kept to a very good standard and we are always impressed by the amount of storage space. The fridge and free safe in each room are most welcome. The meals were up to their usual excellent standard. We did think that the pink exterior of the hotel looked a little 'tired' this time .. maybe it is due for a repaint!

We still believe that this centrally placed hotel is an excellent base from which to discover the delights of this part of Slovenia and would have no hesitation in returning again.

Room Tip: Mountain view with balcony worth the extra although roadside view perfectly acceptable if your budge...

I booked a last minute holiday to Slovenia, I had never been to Slovenia before ,but have been to Austria many times ,and it looked like Austria so I gave it a go , wow was pleased I did.The flight was the same into Salzburg with Thomsons so we knew the format ,great flight and transfer to resort. The hotel was right in the center ,and what a stunning view of the mountains from our room, every thing about the hotel is excellent the staff the food all first class. The resort is great with shops bars and stunning views every where. There is a music show in the village square most evenings ,there is plenty to do in the resort ,we have not been on an excursion yet as the place is so nice.We shall return again soon .Give it a go you won't be disappointed Phil Grimsby

We have just returned from our first visit to this hotel. We had a superb time....the hotel staff in reception and the dining room were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We had asked for a room on the 3rd floor and at the back of the hotel ,and with a shower........we got exactly what we asked for. Room was spacious and clean, and a superb shower. We had a balcony with beautiful views over the mountains and garden. The food in the dining room was all buffet style, and was excellent......the choice at breakfast ,lunch and dinner was pretty extensive with something for everyone kept very well replenished at all times. On the days when we were out on trips we asked for a packed lunch, which again was more than we had hoped for. We had gone with Saga so we had included trips and others that we paid for. We went to the Postojnska caves, which are really worth a visit........and we also took the very long trip to Venice ,which although extremely tiring was a must. The scenery everywhere was spectacular and the walks gorgeous. We had a saga rep whose name was Nebs he was the icing on the cake such a lovely person so helpful and full of information and making sure everything ran very smoothly. We went to Lake Bled under our own steam on the local bus.....very easy trip a local bus at 9.15am takes you straight there, but on the wayback you have to change buses again very simple, you get off the bus on one side of the road and get the one back on the other . Be warned if you go to Bled and decide to go up to the castle there are 300 steps!!!!! not for the faint hearted. The only small downside the rooms do not have air conditioning, and if you have a room at the back, which we did, the sun shines in the room all day..........but because the room was at the back and so no noise we could sleep with the door open all night which helped. Super holiday will remember for a long time.

Room Tip: Room 365 on the 3rd floor at the back of the hotel does only have a shower no bath sh...

The Good

The Ramada hotel was formerly the Grand Prisank and still bears the name. The single advantage of the take over for visitors is that it allows free access to the large indoor swimming pool, wave machine and Jacuzzi available in another Ramada owned complex just a short walk down the road. Grand Prisank itself has comfortably sized rooms with large beds, and a bathroom that includes a decent shower and built-in hair-dryer. A room safe with a digital lock is included in the price. The hotel is kept very clean throughout, and the local staff are friendly and hard-working. Rooms on one side of the hotel look out over the nearby mountains, providing a picture postcard view. The food, while not the most varied, is plentiful and will be satisfactory for most guests. Those who want to try something more local, or are into faster food, can find both within easy walking distance. Ice cream fans should check out Charlies, just off the main drag in Kranjska Gora, which has a fabulous array of home made concoctions. There is a general store and post office just across the road form the hotel, and the local museum is also well worth a visit. Almost all locals have a basic to very good grasp of English, and sound like Alexander Orlov. There are a number of fairly easy walks beginning close to the hotel, and within minutes walkers can find themselves out in the unspoiled countryside, strolling alongside beautiful clean rivers and streams, through pine and larch forests, and enjoying stupendous views of the surrounding mountains. Note, this is all in summer-time, winter can see Kranjsak Gora under two metres of snow, and at that time is all about the ski-runs and winter sports. Perhaps we were just lucky but we found that at bedtime Grand Prisank was the quietest, most relaxing hotel we've ever stayed in, enabling us to enjoy a good night's sleep every night.

Our SAGA rep, Nebs, was excellent from start to finish. Informative, personable and funny, he was available 6 days a week to dispense advice, and make sure all aspects of our stay went smoothly. The weather was unseasonably hot, and as the rooms do not have air-con, we were finding it difficult to breath at night. Until we asked Nebs if he could get the hotel to supply a fan for the room. Very soon Nebs was knocking at our door bearing a large floor-standing fan which made all the difference. There were two free trips included in our package, and we also had a choice of several more paid excursions to a variety of destinations. We chose the Postojnska Jama cave system, and the Lake Bled/ Bohinj, both of which were exceptional in their beauty, and good value for money. Other trips available included Venice, Austrian lakes, and the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.

The Bad

The main issue we had was that for reasons best known to themselves SAGA have done a deal with British Airways, who do not fly to Ljubljana. BA are much better than any budget airline we've travelled with, and looked after us very well. The probelm is that flying into the ultra clean Saltzberg airport puts travellers a long, long way from the hotel. Counting the comfort stop, the journey by coach from Salzberg to Kranjska Gora takes around twice as long as the flight, which is ridiculous. After a while, the scenery becomes just another mountain covered in pine forest. WW2 movie fans note that the castle used for filming 'Where Eagles Dare' is viewable and easily photographed from the motorway at Werfen, on both the incoming and outgoing journeys. We asked around and found that other non-SAGA guests staying at the hotel had flown in to Ljubljana. So if their travel companies can do it, why can't SAGA? While we found Kranjska Gora and its people utterly charming, and thought Slovenia was blessed with more than its share of natural beauty, we would think twice about returning with SAGA unless or until an option to fly into Ljubljana was available.

Tips

Pay for a room with a mountain view, and make sure that you are NOT under the kitchen air-con, which starts its noisy work at 4:00am. Also, be aware that frolicking in the long grass or undergrowth of the countryside caries the small risk of encountering one of the three types of poisonous snakes that inhabit the region. Walkers should note that the deeper forest are often very dense, and as the country is 60% woodland getting lost is easy if you forget your compass. The forest are also home to wolves and brown bears. So more adventurous types should take the place seriously and go suitably equipped.

I would just like to say what a brilliant time my husband and I had in Kranjska Gora at this Hotel. The staff were really helpful and friendly. The room was very spacious and clean with plenty of storage for clothes etc.. The power shower was excellent. Food in the Hotel was buffet self service at breakfast and dinner and there was always plenty of choices to eat. The salad bar was lovely. There was some entertainment in the dining room a few times in the week. There was a mini heatwave whilst we were there and temperatures shot up to 35c for about 4 days.

We travelled with Crystal and visited the postojna caves and Castle and found this trip to be amazing. The guides were very good.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are the quietest and as there is a Church bell which rings every quar...

I don't often write these reviews because I think they can be rather subjective and what one person likes another doesn't, but on this occasion I feel the service we received at this hotel warrants special appreciation. We stayed in this hotel during the last week in Feb whilst on a fabulous skiing holiday, the hotel is spotlessly clean and the room we had was spacious, very well furnished and quiet but what really stood out was the attention we were given by the restaurant staff, in particular by a gentleman by the name of Niko. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant on our first night we were given first class service. I have special dietary needs (Gluten Free ~ Coeliac) and was given a letter by Crystal Ski which had been translated into Slovenian to explain my condition to the hotel.....they could not have been more helpful, to be honest they put their UK counterparts to shame with the help they gave me during my stay. I was given gluten free bread and crackers, made individual desserts and my main course was cooked to order. Bearing in mind its a buffet style restaurant we were amazed by the service I received.
This was my first trip abroad in over 3 years because of my concern about being able to maintain a gluten free diet, but my mind was put at rest on the very first night.....thanks so much for helping make our holiday so special and stress free, and once again special thanks to Niko and the catering staff.

Room Tip: South side of hotel have best views of mountains
