Stayed here for one week, first time in Slovenia. Hotel is in a perfect location for skiing - just open the back door and you are on the slopes. The Larix is not luxurious but is comfortable, clean and friendly. The staff are really helpful and the food is fine - Slovenian food is, we found, stodgy and erm filling shall we say!
Breakfast is a good choice of cereal, toast and bread and different hot foods such as scrambled egg, omlettes and and ( to an English palate ) very strange things like fried aubergines and courgettes! The only down side is the coffee which is out of a machine and vile.
We stayed half board and the evening meals were a hot buffet which was filling and tasty. Plenty of choice in my opinion - soups, salads, choice of several meats and veg. None of it fine dining - bit like the best bits of school dinners but very filling after a day on the pistes. Puddings were not up to much but apart from that it was fine.
Recommend the snacks at the Larix in the bar and especially the cream slices..yummy.
The pool is massive but tended to be a but crowded.
Wouldn't ski again in Slovenia - it's a good place to learn but not a great variety of pistes but would go again for walking in the summer and would definately recommend the Larix.

We travelled with First choice from Glasgow to Salzburg with a 3.5hr transfer by bus, and whilst this would probably normally raise a few eyebrows, we hardly noticed the time, with the excitement and a half hour pitstop at a nice wee service station.

The hotel was eveything we expected with friendly staff, good drinks prices and the best location in the resort. When we arrived, there was some kind of fesitival on with a stage at the bottom of the slopes outside our room, the noise was absolutely mind blowing, but instead of getting annoyed we decided to join them, and have a couple of drinks. This finished at 11.30pm so it wasn't too bad.

The week was great for us snowboarders, a dump of about two feet of snow on the Sunday night and all day Monday really helped.

The food in the hotel was fine. Nothing to fancy, but something to suit everybody. We went half board, and never considered eating out, apart from our constant desire for Pizza, but we witheld our urges.

The leisure facilities are great once you work out the electronic system for the lockers. there are plenty of water jets and seating areas where you can relax and recover after a day on the slopes, and my wife used the spa for a treatment which she claims was great.

Everything about the hotel etc was great, but I must admit the one thing that really got to us was the manners of the people using the facilities both in the hotel and on the slopes. I'm sure its the same acrossall european ski resorts, but when you're there, don't try to be polite, or hold doors for people because it is not acknowledged, and there is no such thing as a queue on the slopes, it's everybody for them selves. We were shocked at how rude some people could be.

We didn't let that spoil our holiday though. Thanks First Choice, and thanks to those at the Larix.

Myself and my family have been to the hotel larix 3 times and it will be our fourth stay this year. We love the resort Kranjska Gora but the location of the Larix tops the whole experience. You can wake up, have breakfast and be out on the slopes within 20 minutes. We have had no problems with the hotel and will recommend it to anyone.

We have been to Slovenia on numerous occasions having stayed in a variety of hotels and private apartments. We hadn't intended going on holiday this year but 6 weeks before we went we found a very good deal for 7 nights, half board, at the Hotel Larix. We had never stayed at this hotel before but had walked past it countless times on our previous trips.

The outside of the building gives no clue as to the quality of the internal decoration. The open spaces, bedrooms, pool and dining areas were all finished to a very high standard. The staff, without exception, were extremely friendly and helpful. This is the first hotel I have ever stayed in (home or away) where the reception staff don't have an 'air of superiority’. The bedroom was roomy and contained a mini bar with reasonable prices (plenty of space for drinks bought from the supermarket across the road).

There are several excellent places to eat out in Kranjska Gora and we had envisioned skipping our half board evening meal on some nights. The quality and variety of meals available dictated that we didn’t eat out once! My wife is a vegetarian and had no difficultly filling her plate. Children won't have a problen either. The breakfast was everything you would expect from a good hotel with a full selection of cooked and cold products. There was a pancake chef ‘on duty’ (everyday except Sunday) providing freshly made pancakes ‘on tap’. Our 8 year old son took full advantage!

The pool complex is superb. Robes are provided in the rooms and a lot of people wore them to the pool. Sun lounges are in abundance around the pool. Non-swimming family members can just lie and relax There is also access to an outside sunbathing area with unbelievably beautiful mountain views. There is a separate little pool and slide for under 4’s (approx). The main pool is one depth (about 5 foot) and has water jets, artificial currents etc. Kids and teenagers will love it.

There is free internet access in the hotel lobby so your teenage kids can keep in touch with their friends etc. There is no WiFi at the moment.

If you hire a car (driving is so easy), there is plenty of parking at the front of the hotel during the day and early evening. At night it filled up with patrons of the Casino attached to the hotel (you wouldn’t know the casino was in the hotel, we suffered no disturbance from it at all). There are designated disabled parks (UK disabled badges are recongized).

All of the hotel, apart from the pool, is obviously wheelchair friendly. There may well be wheelchair access to the pool that we weren’t aware of. All of Slovenia is now non-smoking in hotels/restaurants etc.(started the week before we went). The open spaces in the hotel were a pleasure to sit in.

Our room was at the front of the building facing the town. As a previous reviewer reported, there is a very popular bar across the road which served until 3.30am some nights. The general chatter could be annoying as the rooms aren’t air conditioned and we left the balcony door open due to the heat. This minor inconvenience did not spoil our stay. We are going back to the Larix next year but will try to book rooms on the other side of the building. If we can’t we will happily put up with a bit of noise to stay in this fantastic hotel.

P.S. Slovenia switched to the Euro in January this year. Prices have risen slightly but nowhere near as much as previous converts

The standard of cleanliness, service and value at the Hotel Larix was excellent. The food was wholesome and well cooked with a lot of variety. The location was perfect and in general our whole experience was totally positive. We had a problem with other guests being noisy at night and the hotel management responded positively and quickly, giving us an emergency number to ring if needed.
