“Good food. Not cheap. Grappa very expensive”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

I have enjoyed eating at this place on one night each in the last three years. Good atmosphere, very good food, good and friendly service. Very popular so best to reserve a table, particularly if you want to eat in the courtyard. One would expect to pay more for the good quality of the food. However they will offer you a fizzy wine aperitif and a grappa to finish. These are not on the house, as you might be fooled into thinking. They are expensive. I am used to being offered a complimentary grappa when paying the bill. Not here! They charge a whopping €5 per person for it! A bitter note on which to end an otherwise good evening.

“Divine”
Reviewed 26 July 2014 via mobile

The service was impeccable at this quaint restaurant, matched only by the divine food that was served. A must try is the region specialty - horse meat accompanied by one of the country's excellent wines. The home made spinach gnocchi with monk fish, honey mushrooms and truffle just melts in the mouth. Medium herbed lamb in cognac was served alongside silky mashed potatoes, the sauce succulent enough to soak with the domaci bread. Complimentary first class chicken pate will have you only wanting more from this authentic Slovenian pantry.

“Great reception, delicious dinner.”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

We arrived quite late and the waitress asked the chef if we could still be served. Unfortunately this was not possibble anymore and she suggested to come back the next day. When we told her that would not be possible, as it was our last evening in the city, she immediatly returned to the chef, who then asked her to tell us that he would be happy to cook his last dinner for us, before he would go on holiday the next day (thank you both once again!). All our courses were very tasteful. The Scallop au gratin was great, as was the Young horse filet with truffles, to name a few. Our waitress helped us choose a great wine to accompany our choices. The restaurant is nicely furnished and decorated, creating a cozy atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Ljubliana!

“Great food, great service”
Reviewed 22 July 2014 via mobile

This place was a great find. It is more home cooking than pretentious, but every course was good. The mushroom gnocchi and the horse with truffles were both divine. Three courses and wine for two for under €100. Our waiter was excellent, too, recommending food and wine to our tastes in perfect English.

“Top, local food, courtyard dining available”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

I checked TA before and glad I chose Spajza for dinner. Courtyard seating is limited, better to make a reservation. Friendly, professional, multilingual staff. The food was excellent. I had duck breast with figs and vegetables. Everything was to the point. Cover charge (i.e. silverware, usually fabric napkins, etc.) is widely common in better restaurants in Slovenia and Croatia. Prices are adequate for quality received. I highly recommend it.
