In our experience the further east you go in Europe the lower the standard of hotels, so a 5* really means a western 4*, and the price you'll pay is not 5* prices in any case! With that in mind we arrived knowing what to expect and were not disappointed. We notified the hotel in advance that we were staying for our 25th wedding anniversary and were upgraded on arrival. Our room on the 10th floor was very, very nice. No, not 5*, no rose petals on the pillows, no champagne on ice, no turn down service, no bellboy, and perhaps a less than exquisite bathroom. But still an exceptionally comfortable 4* room with a view over the rooftops towards Ljubljana castle. We had a basket of fruit in the room and chocolates by the bed, we don't know if this is standard for these rooms. The windows had electric blinds which included a blackout blind so we slept late which was good!
We thought breakfast was pretty good, there was everything you would expect for an international hotel. We found the reception staff to be very polite and welcoming, and overall we thought this hotel quite charming.
If you are expecting the same level of service and quality as a 5* in say London, then you will come away disappointed. We had lower expectations which this hotel exceeded!

Room Tip: Higher rooms facing the castle

Apart from the room and the breakfast there was nothing special about this hotel although it is rated as 5 star?! Disappointed with the staff especially in the bar and restaurant where we were ignored - we decided to go to town instead where we received quality service. The price of the airport transfer recommended by the hotel was more expensive than stated. We believe there would be better hotels to stay in Ljubljana.

Check in was quick and friendly and we were allocated a room on the 8th floor. During the following 10 hours
- the scart lead needed to be replaced so that the TV would work
- a member of staff had to come up and fix the safe
- we needed to change rooms at 11pm because the air conditioning unit would not turn off

Each time we reported a problem the staff response was excellent. It was a shame these problems occurred and we were given a plate of fruit to acknowledge the inconvenience.

Parts of the hotel are quite cramped and dated and although the hotel itself is definitely not 5 star the staff were professional and pleasant.

The multilingual staff was very friendly and helpful. It is about a 5 minute walk to the Triple Bridge and old part of town. Room was nice and cool, when it was very hot outside. Breakfast selection was large and plentiful with both hot and cold food, European and American style selections.

We were greeted warmly. The desk clerk was funny, and upgraded us. The room was spacious and lovely. It is a 5 minute walk to the river, walking area, and cafes. The bar has a beautiful aquarium. We enjoyed having a drink and watching the fish. I would recommend this hotel. The breakfast buffet is nice also.
