“Appropriately Named”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

I stayed here 3 nights between April 29 and May 2, 2014.

This hotel is very conveniently located - midway between the bus/train stations and the center. The bus and train stations are located in the same place. From there, a comfortable five minute walk will get you to the hotel. Another five minutes and you're in the city center. So you'd be close to two important things without the hustle and bustle.

Some time back, this may have been a 4-star hotel because the signs on the street indicating the direction to the hotel show the four stars next to the name of the hotel. But in the reception area, only three stars are shown. However, this hotel still has characteristics of a 4-star hotel. Staff are friendly; rooms are clean, roomy and well-appointed. Breakfast is more than adequate with a reasonable range of choices (meats, veges, fruits, juices, fresh milk, cereal, etc.). There's a good selection of channels on tv if you need to catch up on news, and the free wifi works like a charm.

Oh, and Ljubljana is a gem, of course.

We chose this city for its beauty and great location and we chose this hotel for its location and proximity to the bus station and train station which was just a 5 minute walk to the Central Hotel. There is so much to do very close to this wonderful city. From here we went skiing to Mt. Vogel, Kranjska Gora which was about an hour plus bus ride. We also went to both the caves in this area, Postojam and Skocjan which were also an hour and half drive. We enjoyed viewing the countryside and the bus was comfortable. The caves were an unexpected great adventure and you must go experience them for yourself.
.
The Central hotel itself was a little bit worn but clean and more than sufficient.
We had a view of the castle from our room on the 6th floor and that was lovely. The staff was very accommodating and the breakfast buffet was abundant ant with plenty of choices. The bathroom did not have a decent blow dryer or electrical outlet so that was the only thing missing.

The city was fabulous and it was one of my favorites. Full of fascinating history, lovely restaurants, open-market, shopping, and friendly English speaking people. We had a great meal at The Sokol (with traditional Slovenian entrees and atmosphere - try the trout fillet), We also ate at Zlata Ribica which was wonderful for great food and people watching along the river. ) Our last night we ate at Marley and Me and the salad was fresh and tasty as was the creme cake.
The shopping offers an open air flea market with clothes, fresh produce and more. Also the worlds oldest department store is there. Lots of boutiques are full of the latest fashions.

We took a free tour, ( a tip donation is requested and worth it ) from Free tour of Ljubljana We learned so much that it made the city so much more interesting. Take it early in your trip. They met at 11;00 in the city square. And if you can get Tina, she was smart , articulate and full of great stories. Check the website..

Don't miss this city and wherever you stay you'll have a great time..

Room Tip: Views on top floor are good for a view of the castle .

Located near the city centre, the hotel is ideal to explore the city of Ljubljana. The hotel has a 3 star rating but should have at least 4! Comfortable and luxurious rooms, friendly staff and great breakfasts make this a " must stay" hotel for travelers to Slovenia.

Ljubljana is a great base for people wanting to ski (Mt. Vogel, Kranjska Gora), visit the caves (Postojna, Skocjan), or visit the sites (Lake Bled, Tryglav National Park). This hotel is perfect for this. It is two blocks south of the train station and bus station which are next to each other. Don't even bother with a taxi from the stations to the hotel, you are just so close.

Most sites mentioned above are a half hour to one hour away by either train or bus. Bus is usually better because they are more frequent and travel to more places. The airport can also be accessed by bus (40-45 minutes) from the main station.

The hotel is also just 4 blocks north of the cultural center of the city - Preseren Square with three bridges. Good restaurants with plenty of outdoor dining and people watching are along the river. The hotel does not have a restaurant, but the ones in the city center are very good. The Sokol (with traditional Slovenian entrees and atmosphere - try the trout fillet), Zlata Ribica (with the best reputation for views and people watching along the river front), and Marley and Me (a cute little place - the salmon salad and cream cakes are excellent) are just some of the eateries worth checking out.

Excellent shopping is minutes outside your door. Little boutique shops and the oldest department store in the country are just steps away.

One tip. I avoid tours, but there is one minutes away in Preseren Square every day at 1100 am that is recommended. It is the Ljubljana Free Tour. Check their website. Tina did the walking tour and the tour was quite informative and enjoyable. It lasted almost two hours. Tips accepted.

The hotel rooms themselves are average - quiet, claean and comfortable. A room on the 6th floor gives you a view of the castle and some of the city from the large windows. An indoor swimming pool on the top floor of their sister hotel two blocks away is a nice compliment. Yet the hotel does not deserve it's excellent rating on the rooms or facility (which is still good), but on it's great location which will allow you to maximize your experience in Ljubljana.

I stayed at Centra Hotel for New Years Eve, for one night. My car was safely parked in the near by carpark for a convenient price of 20€ for the 24 hours, walking distance to the main square in Ljubljiana was less then 5 minutes. Reception personal spoke both English and Italian and was very helpul with a nice map of the city, still I knew the city already. The room was perfect for two, soft towels and amazing bathrobe, all set of shower gel and cream, sewing kit and shoe sponge!! Although our window was not facing the main road, there was some noise but of course only because of the celebrations! Breakfast was a delightful surprise, all sort of food, from sausages, eggs, cakes, cereals, fruits, juices and deliciuos home made croissants!!! Half an hour breakfast, we skipped lunch!! I will definetely recommend this hotel and will stay there again in the future.

we arrived at this Hotel without a reservation close to midnight. The reception was very helpful not only at check inn time but the other days as well. The quality of the breakfast was impressive; really good and included with the price of the room. The location fantastic, very close to everything in this wonderful city of Ljubljana and the rooms impeccable, clean and quite.
Step at the Hotel door, walk a couple of nice blocks, enjoy the architecture and you are downtown!
