Me and my friend were interrailing around europe for a month, and booked all our accom. before we left. Slovenia was towards the end of our trip and we had bumped into lots of people on our way who had already been and had absolutely raved about this hostel to us (as did the reviews online, hence why we booked it). Granted, we only stayed for 2 nights, but I honestly don't see what the hype is about this hostel.
The staff were really lovely and really helpful, the all you can eat breakfast (always a winner when you're on a budget) for a relatively cheap price was great and the location relative to the train station was perfect (although the directions we got from the hostel were not the most helpful).
But apart from that, there was nothing special about it unfortunately, and it was one of the worse hostels we stayed in during the month. We stayed in a 12 bed mixed dorm, which we were totally used to by this point in the trip. But, we got to our room and it was basically like 12 mattresses on the floor. There were supposed to be 2 showers and 2 toilets for the room, but one was 'out of order' (looked like it had been for a while and nothing had been done about it to be honest) and so we were sharing a shower, toilet and sink between 12 people... putting it simply: it was disgusting. There was a distinct smell of uncleanliness and damp to the bathroom (to the point I actually couldn't use it). Turns out (found out on the morning we left) that there were much cleaner communal bathrooms downstairs that we could've been using the whole time but, despite the fact that one bathroom was out of order, there was no advertising of this. The room itself was horrifically dusty and unclean. Also, the 'lockers' they provide are only big enough to fit a small bag, rather than being able to put your whole bag in for safety (which is the norm in hostels). The atmosphere in the bar area was non existent... thankfully we could sit and watch the world cup in the evenings but I genuinely don't know what we would've done if that wasn't on. The food served was overpriced for the portion size given. There was no kitchen, so we couldn't even cook our own meals. There was only WIFI on the ground floow, so didn't have it in the rooms (also a norm for the other hostels we stayed in) Maybe you would have a completely different experience if you were staying in one of the private 'cells', but personally, we just couldn't understand why everyone raved about it so much.
It's such a shame, because this hostel was one of the ones we were most excited about staying in. Maybe we just caught it on a bad couple of days.
The one saving grace about this place was the staff, they were really really nice and helpful.
