Good choice for business trips. Overpriced as every hotel in ljubljana. Very well located at the very centre. I suffered a little bit from cold as outside temperature was very low but the central heating follows the calendar...

Nice hotel well located for stations (bus and train) and access to Old Town. We booked a superior room with a view of the castle and a balcony but the weather wasn't good enough to sit out. The room was large, the bathroom had a bath and a separate shower with masses of hot water. There was a mini-fridge with complementary beer, coke and water. Breakfast was fine but the orange juice is awful. They did have pure bottled carrot and beetroot health juices though. It was quite crowded with business and Eurobasket guests. Also quite expensive but all the hotels in Ljubliana were. Great wifi in room but rubbish collection starting at 6am was a bit noisy - overall no real problems!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front were quite noisy

Our group stayed at the City Hotel for two nights at the beginning of our holiday in Slovenia. Spacious reception area with three lifts servicing all floors. A café/bar was opposite the reception with easy chairs. Our room, No. 520, faced the rear of the hotel, no noise from traffic. Although floor space was on the small size when we were both moving around the room, it was okay. In the room were twin beds and for a change a unit to store two cases, the one on the bottom shelf though couldn’t be accessed unless pulled out. If we had been staying a week we would have unpacked but for two nights it wasn’t worth it. There was plenty of cupboard space which included a safety deposit box, free of charge. No air conditioning just a ceiling fan. We had the window open all night and even with thunder, lighting & rain it didn’t appear to become cooler. Other amenities included a TV on the wall, clock radio and a desk & chair. Bathroom was okay, cleaning gel supplied by the sink & in the shower. When in the shower the air current used to suck the shower curtain in and ended up sticking to my legs, bit of a pain otherwise easy to use shower control.
Although a large breakfast area it could become very busy. Plenty of variation though, cereals, fruit, yogurts, cold meat & cheese, various hot food and cakes. If you couldn’t find anything to eat, you must be hard to please. The staff appeared to busy keeping up with the demand for crockery & utensils but I always got a smile from them or help if required.
As for the location you couldn’t fault it. Nicely located, about five minutes from the centre of the Old Town, Triple Bridge etc. and in the other direction Tivoli Park. Would be happy to stay here again.

Two night stay with family to see Ljubljana. Big room, comfortable bed. Breakfast was good, location right downtown, 2 min walk into Old Town. Grumpy old guy (glasses, 50ish) didn't want to give me any extra towels; that part was kind of cheapo, but otherwise really nice place, would stay there again if I went back.

Was really disappointed with this hotel. Was initially given a room in the old block which was very run down and looked nothing like in the pictures. The reception refused to change room and when I was contemplating changing the hotel they then gavel a new room with an additional charge of 30 euros.
Room was average no shower cap available. The restaurant serving breakfast was so crowded and there were not enough seating.
Location is good near to the old city.

We just spent 2 nights here during the Euro Basket tournament. I believe for this reason, our rate at 135 euros per night was higher than normal and more than I would expect for a 3 star hotel. But, at the same time, a lot of hotels were sold out and I was glad to get one in the city center.

For the good points - it is very convenient - less than 5 min walk to the old town and 3 bridges and restaurants and the open food market, 10 min walk to the train station. Our rate included breakfast. During our stay, there were large tour groups staying here. The first day, it was really crowded to the point we could not find a table. That was a bit of an annoyance. The breakfast is mediocre - hot food not hot enough and the second day, there were no pastries. Also, on the first day, since there were so many people, there was a long line for coffee and the orange juice was more water than juice. Upon arrival, we arrived before 2 pm and check was at 2 so we ate lunch in the hotel but the food was mediocre.

When I booked, only a triple room was available. This room had 3 single beds - 2 they pushed together so not really a double bed. There were actually 2 bathrooms and one was handicapped accessible-both bathrooms had sink and shower. The room was clean and functional. Furniture was more like IKEA but enough room for everything and the room was quite big. The water from the shower does tend to come out and you have to be careful that you do not slip when you have finished showering.

You can only turn on the electricity and AC while the key is in the slot. Since we only got 1 key, it was always hot when we returned to the room. The room does get pretty hot and the AC does not really cool the room. Also, the hair dryer is the kind you mount on the wall and it was weak and it would shut off automatically when it got hot so of course it takes awhile to dry your hair.

WIFI was complimentary and it was fast. No complaints.

Correspondence with the hotel was great. I contacted them prior to arriving and they arranged for Markun Shuttle to pick us up at the airport for 9 euros per person. It was paid as part of our hotel room. We left via train to Zagreb and bought tickets at the train station a couple days prior to leaving.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
City Hotel is located in the very heart of Ljubljana and is an excellent choice for both business guests and tourists to discover the charms of Ljubljana and Slovenia. It has a wonderful view of Ljubljana Castle and the city cathedral, and an ideal location just a stone’s throw from the historic old town. This pleasant hotel among the vibrant city inns, shops, and attractive historical buildings offers local Slovenian and international cuisine as well as a state-of-the-art congress center. The Jože Pučnik international airport is only 25 km from the hotel, and the main railway and bus station is only 400 m away. The hotel is easy to access from all of the city’s major roads; once in the city, you simply follow the blue hotel signs. Ljubljana’s City Hotel is the successor to the venerable Štrukelj Hotel, which opened in 1907. The current hotel excels in its friendly staff, the warmth of its rooms, and a broad range of services found at an excellent location in the very city center. City Hotel has 201 rooms, three luxury suites, an underground garage, a conference center with four meeting rooms, a library, a terrace, an Internet corner, a restaurant, and a bar. City Hotel’s complete makeover concluded with its opening in September 2007. The “basic” and “standard” rooms were renovated, and the “superior” rooms were moved to a completely new part of the hotel. All of the rooms use a card-locking system and all of them have free Internet access. ... more   less
