“Functional and expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 April 2008

Located far from the centre - you need to take a taxi to the old town. It's located on a very busy road. The rooms and bathrooms are very spacious and modern in design. A big draw-back is the fact that all the rooms at the back face a dreary apartment block. Good for business - modern and efficient. The kind of place you prefer to put on your expense account than on your own account. I noticed the hotel has a casino.

I have stayed here a number of times on business over the last few years. The rooms are very comfortable, and the staff are very friendly. All rooms are modern and equipped with a large flat screen. Although the last time I was there, the choice of channels had diminished. The breakfast is very good also. Overall, a good business hotel, but if you are visiting Ljubljana for a short stay, go into city centre. This hotel is a 30/40 minute walk to city centre, or bus/taxi.

A great hotel in a wonderful city. Bit far out but the free shuttle took the sting out of that. Taxis back were cheap. Good amenities, friendly staff and very clean.

It seems that things haven't changed for the better, because my experience (one year ago) was really good. Just a lucky find during a one day stopover. In fact, we were really surprised by the hotel's quality and value: we paid only € 75, breakfast included!

The hotel is just too far from the old centre to go there on foot, and has an international noncultural style which doesn't add to the charm of it. I can image people will therefore have higher demands regarding the hotel's facilities. In our case, everything was spot on:
- warm welcome
- free parking
- multimedia equipment working well (internet, movies, free phone etc)
- room service quick, affordable and good quality
- luxurious room altogether
- great breakfast

So if you're looking for a business hotel or don't mind taking the (free) shuttle bus into town it is a comfortable hotel.

This is definitely a strange hotel. The modern decor and grand media seems like a lot of grand guiginol when the media center seems to not work.

Basically the technology is old and outdated and needs some coaxing. We did get the free international phone calls going believe it or not - you have to dial some prefix that only recpetion knows. And you can't call reception becuase you need some 3 digit number to get them - 0 doesn't do it. None of this info is in the room. The bed was reall uncomfotable though it looked nice.

The restaurant was another oddity. It seemed deserted but we persisted and found 20 Japanese tourists in a room off to the side and then tracked down a sullen waiter who did serve us in the very nice but empty dining room. Food was excellent but service slow. On the other hand, the breakfast was one of the best I ever had and was a very extensive free buffet....

Having seen the adverts for this hotel and its Grand Media facilities we stayed here in July 2007. However, we were highly disappointed. None of the "Grand" IT facilities were working. We did not have use of the internet, the advertised TV stations, and the phone - in fact we could not even call reception or room service. We had to walk up and down to reception 3 times to ask for help with the problems and all to no avail. Even if the facilities were in working order these were just generally badly set up and very slow. The images projected on the screen were distorted, badly set up and the projector itself was hideously noisy. We were told the server was down that day and the technician had simply 'gone home for the evening', no apologies were offered or any efforts made to rectify the situation. Having had contact with the hotel following our stay we have been refused compensation or a discount on the room rate we paid despite our complaints. I would not return to this hotel at all - it was simply not as advertised and was poor value for money. It would be much better value to stay in a hotel closer to the city centre and for a fraction of the price with better services and facilities.

I have spent 3 nights in this hotel, and my overall reaction is that it was terrible.

Even in the little guidance book in my room it was stated to be "within walking distance from the centre", which is simply a lie. I tried it once, about 5 kms by a road with heavy traffic, and on several parts there was almost no pavement to walk on. Otherwise it costs 8 euros to get to the center or if you can catch one of the free shuttles, you may have a chance to travel like at high school - we were once 11 (!) of us in a small bus for officially 8 persons (incl. driver)...

The famous "grand media technology" center including a huge flat tv looked charming at first. Right until I discovered that I have to turn it on manually as the remote control doesn't work, and only 3 of the more than 30 channels are available. The staff only reacted that "sorry, it's the same in all rooms". Fine, thanks... The high tech proximity card key was also a bit ridiculous, I had to wave the card in front of the little LCD screen by the door for minutes to have it open the door. How do they say it in English, fuss and feathers?

The beds were very short and narrow, I woke up several times at night being afraid of falling between the beds. It wasn't even possible to push them by each other. Oh, and I hate it when I can't open the windows of the room at all. Maybe it was better like that this time as the hotel is by a road with heavy traffic and the windows open to the outskirts of Ljubjana with several construction sites.

Otherwise the room was sufficiently clear but without shampoo (four stars??), the breakfast was also fine but in a hall without natural light and windows. It seems that nothing is perfect in this hotel.

A good piece of advice for the owners: with a bit smaller tv and bigger beds, with less promises but all kept they would be more succesful...
