“Excellent location and rooms”
Reviewed 14 March 2013

New hotel (opened mid 2012), big nice rooms, friendly receptionists. I was a little worried that the stairs / facade of the building / street it was on was going to be dodgy after reading some of the other reviews on here, but this was not the case. Good pedestrian street next to the river, front of the building is decent, and the stairs are fine. Not dingy. The key to the main door of the building and the sensor lighting inside the building could be improved, but this is not just the hotel's issue as it appears to be also privately owned apartments etc in this building.

The location of this hotel is central and excellent. We had a very good price so for us it was certainly a bonus as most other places in this price range were 10-15m out by bus and were more expensive than this place.

Parking is free on weekends (at least Sat after 7pm and all day Sunday) across the river - but a few blocks down, still only 5min walk back) or nearby behind the hotel in the fee-paying car park. Parking is EUR1.80 overnight from 7pm-7am (JUST EUR1.80 for the entire time) and EUR1.20 per hour during the day.

The receptionists recommend Sokol for traditional food, and it sounds like other hotels do as well. We ate there and found it average. The waiter treated all his customers (not just us) as though the customers were a necessary evil. Also, this place does NOT give you tap water, unlike everywhere else we ate at in Slovenia.

Very surprised by some of the reviews on here. Yes the hotel is hidden on the third floor of a building, but in an old traditional building right on the river front and the edge of the old town, we loved it. The rooms are big and modern with everything you could need and the staff were around all the time and extremely friendly. Would recommend and return.

At first a bit of a shock as hard to find the entrance and then 3 flights of dark and dingy stairs.
However once there the room was excellent; minimalist but smart. Large comfortable bed, excellent wet room with l'Occitaine products and above all you are right by the river and less than 5 min walk from the Triple bridges. We also found a shop that did take away coffee and croissants virtually next door so that was ideal for breakfast. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful.
Just be aware that it wouldn't be suitable for older people, young children or if you had a lot of luggage because of the stairs.

We really fell on our feet! Galleria River can rightfully be considered to a hotel. Location is über first class being on the banks of the river less than 3 minutes walk from the centre of this magical city. Very comfortable for the price and the service is not only excellent - but the staff went the extra mile to make our stay very special.

The Galeria River is a nice and central place to stay, but it is not a Bed & Breakfast or a place where you may wanna spend time during your stay in Ljublana. Galeria River basically rents out stylish rooms that are all on one corridor in the North Wing of a very old mansion. Except for the façade and the, the rest of the building is in a ‘post-war’ state – at least this is what the stair case, lighting, doors etc. suggests. Hence, entering Galeria River gets you to a different world: White, clean, stylish. There is a nice reception, also with a guest PC and that corridor for the eight rooms – two ‘river view’, two ‘back yard’ and two ‘side street’. I had a side street one and I woke up in the middle of the night as some people were making incredible noise outside – which spreads easily in the narrow alley.

The rooms are perfect – slick, cool, clean, great showers and a big fridge (what would you put there?) and a microwave. That also describes what you could – and cannot – prepare in the room. The intention that you might be able to have a snack or breakfast doesn’t work out with the equipment they offer. What I do not like – and I probably would not go back therefore – is the fact that there is no lounge areas where you could meet other guests, read or have a drink. They don’t offer anything. Period. There are not even tea bags or something simple as that in the rooms. Why not? May be it’s just me, not getting the concept …

My conclusion: Recommended with some ‘but’.

I wish I could appraise Galieria River, but I have to be honest: it's not a good hotel. First, finding it proves to be an issue already, it's hidden in the third floor of a historic building, behind a closed door leading to an inner yard, and promoting its' existence with just a small sign on the side of the building.

The hotel is located on the third floor, and there's no elevator. Not fun to haul a 20+ kg bag in the middle of the night.

The rooms are locked with a fingerprint system. Which, in addition for being a bit seedy (I really give fingerprints to the police, and when entering United States, not at a bed&breakfast joint), doesn't work. So after trying for 10+ times, they give you a key.

The rooms are, on the positive side, huge. The place is rather new, so everything is new and shining Ikea white, which is a bit creepy, but at least there's space to live in. Yet, the floor is creaky as hell. It means you move, everyone in the hotel hears it. But more importantly, anybody else moves in other rooms, you will hear it. The walls are wafer thin, you can hear TV and phone from another room clearly, and the noises from outside travel without any intrusion right to the rooms.

On the positive side, the service is amicable. Or, should I say, apologetic. Like they are saying "I'm sorry it's this crappy, it's really not my fault, is there anything I can do?". But yeah, there's no breakfast, of course.

But the worst thing is the price; it's absolutely overpriced for what it is; I'd pay 45€ a night for this, not 100€ like it is now.

Avoid this. Ljubljana is a beautiful city with wonderful hotels, you'll find gazillion better ones easily.

The hotel is well situated in the centre of town just a short walk from the castle. When you first arrive you may not realise that you have arrived at the hotel since there are no signs on the outside of the building. The hotel itself is within a building of residential flats and offices. At the time of our visit much of the building was under renovation, which did not impact on the area within the hotel but resulted in passing the building work in order to get to the floor of the hotel. The hotel is on the 3rd floor and there is no lift. This is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties. The rooms are spacious and minimalist, with comfy beds, great showers, and free wi-fi. If you don't have a wi-fi device you can use their computer at reception. In the rooms there is a microwave with bowls, plates, mugs etc. I thought this was handy, but we only stayed one night so we didn't end up using it. We used the fridge to keep water and a few breakfast items in, which was very handy. A kettle would be a good addition. We slept well in the room, which is not too noisy if you close the window. The room can get quite hot at night, but fans are provided. The staff helped us with restaurant tips, and called to make reservations for us. There are no staff available after 8pm, so make sure you have your entrance keys and ask anything you need of them before they leave. There's nothing wrong with this hotel, but it's also nothing amazing.
