On impulse, my mother and I hopped on to a one-hour boat cruise along the river and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were the only people on board and as such, enjoyed a private and quiet glide along the way. The river is lined by beautiful, old houses; many in pastel colours and from time to time a weeping willow drapes down to the water. It really was a very picturesque and peaceful ride.
The only small fly in the ointment was the enormous, white rat we spotted scampering up the banks in an area where people were throwing bread for the pigeons. Note for pigeon-feeders - rats like bread too!
