“Charming property in the heart of LJU”
Reviewed 30 May 2013

I am quite often in Ljubljana for business. This time I chose Antiq Hotel to have a different experience. It is a cozy and plenty of charm hotel. It reminds me 'hotel particulier' in France. Excellent service at reception, the staff is willing to help you with any request, the quality of breakfast is good, in a sympathetic athmosphere. The design "authentic" is very appreciated, everything is decorated with a good taste. The only comment I would make: some furniture (ex: bed) needs the renovation. Otherwise, the room (#6) was extremely clean & comfortable. At any moment I regret my choice. I certaintly will be back !

Each room has funky character, true, but also faded synthetic patterned carpets, musty drapes and in some, unexpected steps up or down to bathroom and bedroom areas. There is NO elevator - not a problem for us, but it should definitely be noted in descriptions. Breakfast was minimal, although little café tables made setting more pleasant. It appeared to be at half-staff. At check in, one poor man handled all the desk work plus had to carry the baggage. In the morning, one man managed the desk plus breakfast room service. No wonder they didn't smile. This all might have been OK if the price had been at two-star levels.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the garden in back seem to be more interesting.

We loved the location of this hotel, really couldn't be bettered as close to the beginning of the pedestrianised area of the old town and yet far enough away from the busier and lounder parts of this, or this may have been our rear facing bedroom as I see some complaints from other guests about the noise. We were at the back and it was entirely silent. We were only disturbed by church bells adding to the atmosphere.
The actual room was interesting, clean but certainly not my version of 'boutique'. Old fashioned yes, slightly weird yes, boutique no. However the bed was comfortable and we slept well which is the point of a hotel room. We did have a seating area but didn't use it, very much a settee in a dark room between the bedroom and the bathroom, Room 3. The room also smelt odd, but you got used to it after a few minutes.
Breakfast was fine, always plentiful and a good selections of fruits and cheeses etc. The hot food was the same every day, scrambled eggs and little hotdog sausages but they were ok.
Basically, great position, slightly odd and slightly down at heel place run on minimal staffing for quite a lot of money. Would we stay again, no but would we recommend, probably for the position.

- Hotel is located in the car-free area so it´s quiet but you have to carry your luggage by your own and by foot
- it would be better if the hotel would give the information about the nearest parking lot with the confirmation (it´s five minutes away and cost 11 - 12 Euro a day)
- our room (with balcony in wintergarden -style) was surprisingly nice
- we enjoyed our stay and recommend the hotel

We had a double deluxe room (#8) which was huge with a bathroom (and tub) to match. The hotel website has excellent pictures of the rooms and floorplans, so look carefully. The town of Ljubjana (pronounced "lu-be-ya-na) is a fantastic place to visit. Reminded me a bit of Amsterdam and Paris - very beautiful, lots of cafes, a great outdoor market, cafes on the river, plenty to keep one occupied for a few days.

Room Tip: There are cafes near the hotel, so a weekend night could be noisy if you are in the front.

The last two nights of our stay in Slovenia were at Antiq Hotel a small, historic facility in the walking district. Our room was very clean with an excellent, comfortable bed. Access to a patio was a nice added feature. The buffet breakfast was superb with seating in an elegant breakfast seating area. The hotel is also very well situated for walking access to the attractions on both sides of the Ljubljana River as well as Castle Hill and many good restaurants. There is no elevator so those with mobility issues should ask for a room on the first floor..

Room Tip: Be aware that there is no elevator.

We stayed at Hotel Antiq for three nights in May, 2013 and couldn't recommend it enough for those that want the true old town experience. The hotel is perfectly located in old town on a quiet and quaint corner. Only a few steps to cafe, gourmet dinner, the best sites in Llubljana and just off the river. The staff was wonderful! Niko, Gregor, Barbara and Antja all helped to make our stay a terrific experience. The rooms are reminiscent of early 1900 decor with heavy velvet and brocade. The bathroom was very modern. Breakfast which was included had good variety. We will stay here again on our next trip.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 3rd floor room overlooking the fountain and cobblestone street. It was large and...
