Maribor has no art academy but picturesque neighborhood, sunny days and wine. They have a gallery, just five minutes from the main square near the University. So, you can expect many colorful painting and even some sculptures. Permanent collection, mainly exhibited in the first floor of an old building, has many average and some excellent pieces. Nearly all paintings are from the last century. Till the thirties they are realistic and nothing really special. When they turn to abstract and other stiles, you can devote more time to them. Collection is too oriented to artists of Štajerska region. The most interesting part of the collection are mobiles, work of Slavko Tihec. People in the gallery are helpful. All rooms and building need a real radical renovation. Place is good for a visit in winter days or when it is raining.
