Having Parked the car in one of the many car parks, you could be forgiven for thinking Radovljica is nothing special. But you have heard of the old town being beautiful so you persevere and start looking for it.
Once on foot it is easy to find this real gem of a place. Cute shops, plenty of cafés and restaurants and pretty buildings.
The museum is well worth a visit too and if you are lucky there is an open air market with lots of local products to choose from.

The little town does not have much activities to offer, but it's a well preserved masterpiece close to Bled. It used to be a town of traders/merchants.

We joined a group being led by a local girl from the tourist information centre. She was brilliant in her knowledge of the history of the town, and told us so much info about the area. We also saw a lot more of the town than if we had wandered on our own. This is definitely worth a visit, a beautiful town.

Radovljica is a modern small town, but its most interesting part is the old town centre, located around Linhart Square (Linhart was a Slovenian dramatist). Every house in this square is something special. The houses look really old, some of them have actually been preserved from the 16th century. Most of the houses are named after the families that lived in them or after famous people who were born there. The Lectar inn is a beautiful medieval house, its exterior and interior are worth admiring. The Vidic house is a 17th century mansion with a famous portal. The 16th century manor or the castle is the largest building in the square, housing the Apicultural Museum which is quite unique. The St. Peter's church is also very old, partly dating from the 15th century. The Šivic house is the best preserved building from the 16th century. Its interior can be viewed (admission fee). It serves as an art gallery today, weddings take place there as well.
Very often there are different exhibitions as well as fairs with home-made pottery, decorations etc. in the square. It gets very lively there.
I did not manage to mention all the attractions of the old town centre. But visitors are welcome at the tourist information centre also located in the square. We got a lot of maps and brochures as well as friendly advice there.

We chose this as our base for a six-day visit to the region because (1) it looked fascinating and (2) it was on the main bus route, so it would be easy to get to other places in the region. For our purposes, it was terrific on both counts, and far better than Bled. We did hike around the lake and climb up to the castle in Bled, but the town itself had nothing like the character of Radovljica. The Old Town surpasses belief - centuries-old buildings, which are gradually being refreshed, are beautiful, rich with history, and a joy to stroll through.
