Review of Cave Church

Cave Church
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Take about an hour from your schedule and visit the Cave Church. It is amazing. It is heated by the natural springs that are below the cave and make it a pleasant visit. The audio tour is very helpful in learning about the history of the church and the art is very beautiful. The last room is full of beautiful wood carvings, don't miss it.

If you are looking at walking up Gillert Hill, then make a slight detour and pop into this Church. We arrived on Sunday morning just before Mass started, and had a quick look inside. Loved soaking up the atmosphere, and quite enjoyed a church that was not too over the top. Also interesting in the fact that a vast number of the pews dont afford a view of the alter-not sure how you 100% take in the mass, when you cant see what is going on, but again, this is part of the allure of the church.Quite cool inside, so make sure you dress appropriately

This is a very different church with a fascinating history. We loved how it was set in a cave, with the altars, and different areas divided. It was closed off during the Nazi/Communist repression, and then rediscovered and reopened. Really beautiful inside...serene, peaceful, and simple. Beautiful wood carvings of altar pieces and some furniture.rukQuite a contrast to the other churches in Budapest, like Matthias and St. Stephen's. Well worth a visit.

A unique church set in a cave, really worth a look. You get an audioguide which is very informative, well worth a visit. Takes about 30 mins to look around properly.

Steep uphill hike (though there seemed to be some parking) to this church. Very good audio guide takes you through the various rooms / chapels of this church. The history of its founding, its fight to exist, its being bricked up during communism, and its ultimate resurection are inspiring. Well worth the small admission price. Intersting artifacts in the last room.
