Home Made Hostel isn't your average day to day hostel, this one really does its name justice. Even though I only stayed for two nights, I had an amazing experience. The people who work here welcome you with open arms and make you feel comfortable only after being there for a mere couple of minutes. They’ll answer any questions you have, wether it’s about the hostel, Budapest or anything else, not because they have to but because they actually enjoy talking to you. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable and the decoration is great. I loved the overall feel, it’s not a big place, which adds to its charm and “home made” feel. Also, you start recognizing faces and once you meet the people who stay there, you realize they’re just as great as the hostel itself. Is there anything I didn’t like about my stay? I don’t tend to give perfect scores, but if there’s a hostel that deserves it, it’s this one. If you’re looking for a cheap, convenient (free wifi, plenty of bathrooms, kitchen for cooking), cozy (spacious rooms, vintage interior design, a lot of couches) and (almost forgot this) at a very central location in the heart of the city (oktogon station, metro line 1), don’t hesitate to come here.

Fun facts:
*Every Tuesday the staff organizes a (free) dinner for the entire hostel, I had the chance to attend one and it was a lot of fun. People from different countries, eating Hungarian food, drinking wine, sharing stories, getting drunk and laughing together. It was my last night in Budapest, and a great closure to my trip.

*I had an early plane to catch and slept over my alarm, the guy who worked the night shift came to wake me up with a cup of tea.. I love you, even my mom wouldn’t do that.

Amazing hostel - it truly felt like a big flat that you shared with your close mates. I met amazing travelers and the staff were SO helpful and friendly. The rooms are very cosy and nicely arranged. The 6 bed and 4 bed are in separate rooms - the 8 bed is next to the common room and the 4-bed people have to walk through. It is still a private feeling space. Never a queue for the bathrooms which was awesome. Kitchen has everything you could imagine, including free tea and coffee whenever. Grocery/Liquor/Tesco/Metro steps outside the hostel. Truly a perfect location - I have NOTHING bad to say - would be back in a heartbeat...just to stay at the hostel! Cheers HMH!

Home Made Hostel was a fantastic place with great staff who were really helpful. There is also a wide range of books and other helpful resources around the place so you are never stuck for something to do. We were even invited on one of Martin (one of the staff)'s tours for the Erasmus students he mentors and met lots of people from elsewhere in Europe. We stayed in the double room which was wonderful and very cosy. Real feather bedding was lovely. Great location too, right in the Oktogon junction,

We stayed at this hostel from Nov 7-10. Hostel was in a scruffy, old building. The room we stayed at appear to be in need of a little bit of cleaning. We stayed at the apartment / loft room across the hall from the main hostel reception. That aside, the welcome was fantastic. The hostel staff were friendly, helpful, and warm. The hostel even had a Tuesday night free dinner which was a great time to socialize with other guest. This hostel was cozy since I think it has less than 30 beds. Great place to stay if you want to meet other travelers. Hostel was fairly central as well. It was very convenient to a Metro stop and Franz Lizst Square was just about 300 yards behind the hostel. Excellent place for restaurants and bars. Highly recommended.

This place was one of the better hostels i have stayed in- and that is saying something, given that the first 2 nights I was there I was put in a bed literally 30cm away from another guy! On my first night, the owner made free Hungarian food and wine and it was a fantastic way of breaking the ice for all the other travellers. I only wish it was done more often. Pretty small common area, but the staff are all friendly and make suggestions about what to see, where to go out, etc. I would recommend staying here in Budapest.
