Do you know that feeling of having to explore the whole city before you feel you should have lunch or dinner somewhere. You just want to find the best places, on great locations, with great food, friendly people, laid back atmosphere, the place to be. We spend three days and two nights in Boedapest and just felt we wouldn't have to look any further than Gerloczy, the rest would just be bonus, cause we felt we allready arrived in the best place. Perfectly located, great food (breakfast, drinks, lunch, dinner, fingerfood.......al good) and service for fine prices. The staff was helpfull and friendly. And without askink for it, we slept in a beautiful room with the balcony on the 2nd floor (minibar present, perfect combination). Although many tourist seem to be finding this place, the locals liked it too. Cool beamer projections on the wall opposite the terrace with live jazzy harp music on the background...Bed where fine but could be perfect with a softer matras.

Room Tip: Balcony room on te 2nd floor was beautiful, no bath though, but a fine shower. Beds where fine but c...

This is a very special place; well-managed and with professional, attentive and friendly staff, in an excellent location that is both atmospheric and animated, and yet also peaceful. We stayed 3 nights and looked no further than the dining room (or the terrace) for all of our meals. It felt as if we'd found the nicest place in Pest to stay at, but actually it's probably one the nicest hotels/restaurants you'll find anywhere! We wish them well and hope they, and the city, will prosper.

Great hotel. Very well restored. Staff are excellent. Centrally located in a lovely square. Loved the rooms and the high ceilings. Dinner in the restaurant was a very good experience. Will go back

We found Gerloczy through TripAdvisor while looking for a small hotel in central Budapest. The high rating, small hotel, and location led me to chance it. And we were not disappointed. This is one of the finest stays we have ever had! We were coming from a river cruise, and stopped in the day before our reservation to tell them we would be arriving early. While our room would not be available at 9:30am, the lady at the desk told us we would be welcome to leave our bags early and use the facilities.

We stayed for lunch that day and for the next day and a half took all our meals at the cafe. The menu is excellent - my wife is a vegetarian and there were plenty of choices. They have seltzer siphon bottles at the table. The food is well prepared and tasty. We were leaving early for a train to Prague, and they volunteered to prepare free box lunches since we would not be having breakfast.

The room was second floor front looking out over the cafe patio. There was no noise to speak of, and the view was lovely. The room was large, with high ceiling. The bathroom was also large. Everything was well decorated, well maintained and well supplied (but no wash cloths - we always pack a couple of them just in case!).

And the staff, at the inn and at the cafe, was always helpful and friendly. I cannot imagine a better place to stay.

The architectural details in this boutique hotel are marvelous. Since we had 3 rooms I had a good comparison, and all were beautiful. My children had 2 of the attic rooms and the double had a magnificent pedestal bed. There was an elevator so they didn't have to haul their luggage up four flights. Although located close to great shopping and restaurants it was on a very quiet street.
We found the hotel restaurant to be as good as any place to eat. The upstairs dinning room was elegant and dinner was accompanied by either harp or piano music.
Location excellent; rooms excellent; staff excellent and restaurant excellent! This is where we will stay when we return!

Room Tip: Ask for the balcony room.

We found this place using Rick Steves' Budapest guide and found the hotel and cafe charming. The rooms are beautiful- tall ceilings, cozy chairs, huge windows. The staff are kind and helpful- and will help make a lot of reservations. The breakfast (included in room fee) was delicious, and the cafe terrace was a great place for an evening drink as well. The location is ideal- just near the Deak Ter stop- where all three metro lines cross.
