“Charm in the middle of Budapest”
Reviewed 22 May 2013

Just returned from our trip to Prague, Vienna and Budapest. We spent the final 3 nights in this very charming hotel. This place is an exceptional value because not only are the rooms very nice, some with balconies, there is even a free mini-bar - wow! Breakfast credit at their own restaurant was very generous and we could never eat the total amount of the credit!

This is important! After spending 8 or 9 hours walking doing sightseeing, the last thing you want to do and go searching for a place to have dinner. Not to worry. The Gerloczy Restaurant with it's outdoor cafe, provides atmosphere and music (harpest indoors but a singing canary outdoors!). The food is excellent with service as good as you will get anywhere. When your evening is over you just walk up to your beautiful room. We highly recommend this place and again Rick Steve's guidebook did not fail us.

Room Tip: The restaurant closes at 11 pm - until then noise in the rooms in the front may bother you if you ar...

We stayed at the Gerloczy for three nights in May, and found it to be the perfect location for exploring Budapest. The rooms are above the Gerloczy Cafe where your room rate includes a breakfast up to a value of 12 Euros, which is more than sufficient. The Cafe has a wonderful reputation and we made a reservation for supper there on our last night and were not disappointed. If you want a five star Sofitel or Hilton then this isn't the place for you, but if you want an authentic European experience then you can't go wrong with the Gerloczy. The room was spotless, the reception staff very helpful and we couldnt find fault with anything.

We stayed here in June 2012. Good hotel with a nice restaurant at the front. You can seat either indoors or outdoors. Very helpful staff and good location in the Pest area. The room was above average; comfortable for two people. Very small mirror in the bathroom and no shower head. However, there was a handheld shower. Kind of awkward as I had to kneel down in the bathtub to take a shower because there was no shower curtain either, a minor inconvenience. Otherwise, water would have splashed all over the floor. Overall, good hotel and would stay here again.

Staying at Gerloczy is a perfect way to experience Budapest. The location is superb- on a pretty, quiet square right in the heart of the city- we were able to walk to all of the main sights on both sides of the river and most parts of the city are no more than 15 minutes walk.

The hotel itself is 19 rooms and in a restored building that looks to date from the 19th century like the rest of the area. It is extremely well organized and well-run, staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are spotless and well appointed decorated, and though the room size is not huge (it is normal by European standards) the 15-20 foot ceilings give the room a nice airy feel. We stayed in one of the two rooms that has a balcony looking over the square (room #3)- this is worth it if you can reserve it and the weather is good, but the other rooms seem to be identical except for the balcony.

The other unusual feature is the wonderful cafe restaurant that is attached to the hotel. You get all of your breakfasts here and we found it to be one of the best meals we had in Budapest. The cafe decor is wonderful and historic-feeling. The place seems to be popular with both tourists and locals, especially the outdoor seating. Lastly- there is a gourmet Hungarian salami store right next to the hotel on the square- had dozens of different kinds of home-made local salamis. If this is your kind of thing, don't miss it!

This hotel has earned its reputation. Every detail is well thought out..from the professional marketing pieces to the beautiful rooms. The rooms are spacious and well designed and the bathrooms are handsomely appointed with brass fixtures, bowl sink and etched glass shower walls.
The building itself has been restored beautifully with its substantial doors, dark wood paneling and a spectacular spiral staircase.
The location is quite convenient to all the sights and when you are through walking, the outdoor cafe is a little sanctuary for recovering. Complete with a canary serenading you from its little cage.
In addition you will never want to dine anywhere else once you take in the menu at the heart of the cafe's popularity. Freshly made croissants, fresh-squeezed orange juice, a huge selection of home-made breads make it tough to top anywhere else. Entrees of local goulashes as well as international dishes are also well done.
Finally, something must be said for the impeccable service. The general manager leads by example over a smart, talented crew who are obviously as invested in their work as he is. Bravo, Gerloczy!

Room Tip: Rooms with a balcony are a treat. But the cafe gets busy at night so keep the windows closed at bed...

The location of this hotel is good, within walking distance to shops, bus station and underground station. The room was comfortable. The best part had to be the restaurant. Food was very tasty. It gets very busy at dinner and many locals and tourists ate at the restaurant. I will stay at this hotel again because of the restaurant.

we stayed at the hotel last week for 4 nights. the place looks just like it is in pictures, very welcomming, well designed, superb location -5 min from the grand sinagog, 5 minutes from the danuba, 5 minutes from the main streets, 10 min from the big market, all walking distance...the rooms are very well designed but not very big, we stayed with 4 years old boy, felt like its very stuffed (the childs bad is attached to the king size bad- which mean not any privacy at all.
the minibar service is a nice thing to. about breakfast, if you are 3 -with a child consider your budjet is still 24 euro, means if you take more than any ordinary breakfat you can be out of your budjet thoug we didnt take it in mind and had an exeption only once (for a couple it should do very well). the food is nice, coffee is also very good.
another 2 things we didnt like: the smell , every night comes with a strong smell of fish, they like to cook fish at the restaurnt, it makes a very strong smell around the hotel, if you open the windowe you will smell it to. one last thing the showers, like other historic buildings the watter supplay is probabely not the best, the stream is very low , even poor, which makes it a bitt anoying. all to all its a nice place, was good for us consider the price and prime location, just take in mind it's not organised for childran and it's not a boutiqe hotel.
