“A great location from which to enjoy Budapest !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014

The Gerloczy is ideally situated for quick access to the centre of Budapest, on the Pest side - just 10 minutes walk to the Basilica and the same to the river. The staff are extremely helpful and welcoming and the breakfast is very good in the bustling setting of the café downstairs. The only small negative was the soft bed. Overall - really good value-for-money. We would definitely choose it again if we go back to Budapest.

Room Tip: The attic rooms are great - quirky-shaped but very comfortable and good value for money at 80 euros...

Having recently returned from a week's stay at the Gerloczy,
I share the opinion of many others......It's an extraordinarily
good place to call home when in Budapest.

Throughout, the hotel presents an "old world" charm. The
high ceilings, the room's furnishings and the bath's fixtures
take one back to another era yet provide for all of today's
expected comforts. I might add that the hotel generally, my
room and the café were well maintained and
especially clean!

Taking breakfast and dinner in the hotel's café gives one a good
selection of tasty choices, well presented and moderately priced.
It's hard to go wrong!

I found the staff to be very cordial, not intrusive but most helpful.
I especially appreciated being greeted with a smile and kind word
as I would come and go during my stay. You're not a stranger here.

Of course the hotel's location is a real plus. It's centrally located
and allows for an easy walk to many of the Budapest's attractions.

All told I can easily recommend Gerloczy and would certainly choose
it again should I return to Budapest.

Quaint hotel over the cafe, book a balcony room. Not the most comfortable beds and thin towels. Shower water pressure a trickle. Nicest innkeepers at the front desk and very helpful with directions. Just a few blocks away from the action. Cafe fabulous!

We loved our stay at the Gerloczy....it was all true, what the positive reviews say!! The rooms were spacious and charming, the staff was very helpful and welcoming, the breakfast was great....ordered off the menu. No way could you go over the allotted amount for the breakfast....a little strange how they work it on the bill, but no matter, it worked well. (The breakfast charge is mandatory, and additional....seems like they could just add it to the total cost of the room and say it is included). The location was perfect for us....we walked everywhere....to Heros Square, the Baths, the Jewish District, Museum of Torture, St Stephens, over the Bridges to the Buda side. We were a group of 11 couples (just friends traveling together off a river cruise, not a tour) Everyone of us was delighted with this lovely hotel. We were there for 3 nights, not nearly long enough. I highly recommend this perfect little jewel in fantastic Budapest!! I might add that I had been working with the staff at the Gerloczy for over a year to accommodate our group and they were more than helpful with advice and suggestions...always prompt with responses.

Room Tip: All the rooms were nice, each different, but comfortable and spacious. May be a bit quieter in back...

This hotel is a centrally located, but tucked away little gem! My husband & I stayed in the 4th floor attic room, & it was adorable. Skylights, exposed beams, perfect little hobbit nook. Only downside: yesterday was a hot day & they don't actually activate their air conditioning until mid-May. Got a little toasty, but concierge opened the skylights for us, & slept like Hungarian royalty. Another perk- the daily-refilled mini-bar stocked with cookies, chocolate, champagne, & sparkling water. Perfect for this pregnant & weary traveller...

We had eaten at the cafe on a previous visit to Budapest and we're enchanted by the atmosphere and service. This visit we decided to give the rooms a try and were not disappointed; beautiful 14' ceilings, charming view of the square, unobtrusive and efficient service.

Location is perfect for exploring the V, VI, VII and VIII districts of Pest, yet only a beautiful 20-30 minute stroll over the river to Buda. The amazing restaurants in the Jewish District around Dob Utca can be reached on foot in less than ten minutes, as can the riverfront in the opposite direction.

Add a free minibar, LUSH cosmetics, and the most fabulous breakfasts in the cafe and you have the best small hotel in Budapest.

The stay was so lovely that it feels churlish to complain about anything, but we had just the one gripe: on the day of check-out they disabled our room card so that to return to our room for a wash and to collect our bags after breakfast involved a return from the second floor for them to charge the door card again. It would be far simpler just to disable them at the check-out time. We were not the only guests pointing this out.

Based on recommendation from Rick Steves travel book and all the wonderful reviews on TA, we booked an attic room (No. 4) for three nights. I don't need to write much. Read all the good reviews. They are all true. Location is perfect. We love to walk and we walked everywhere from Heroes Park, House of Terror, Grand Market, New York Cafe, to a nice walk across the Chain Bridge to the Buda side. We had lots of room to relax in the room. All the contents in the mini fridge are complimentary and we took advantage. The bed is very comfortable, towels are large, toiletries are very nice, and overall the hotel is very quiet. The breakfast selections are good and you will not walk away hungry. We had dinner in the cafe one night and it was also very good. The staff are professional and friendly, especially at the front desk. I can't say enough wonderful things about the Gerloczy. When we return to Budapest we will definitely stay there.
