The Hotel Castle Garden is an excellent choice for a hotel stay in Budapest. Located near Buda Castle, the romantic cobblestoned streets are less than 5 minutes’ walk away.
The hotel itself is clean and modern, with standard European sized rooms however space is used effectively to make it seem much bigger, and it also had a massive wardrobe to unpack all of our things. We were on the first floor with a very large balcony (not all rooms have a balcony) which was great for sitting out in the morning with a cup of tea. There was a kettle with a selection of teas and it is possible to get a coffee from reception between 11am and 5pm. The bathroom had a shower and a bath, and was spacious too. We had a good night’s sleep and were not disturbed by any other noises in the hotel. The only problem we had with the room was getting the safe to work - set it up wrong and an awful loud alarm goes off. Reception kindly gave us a code to fix it but unfortunately it didn’t work so we left it alone in the end. After three times of the loud noise going off we decided to give up! Staff are friendly and always on hand to help out and I’m sure had we gone back down to Reception someone would have come up to assist but we decided we didn’t really need it anyway as we would be carrying our valuables around with us.
The hotel’s location is great for exploring the castle district on foot and is only minutes away from one of the gates. There is a metro station less than 10 minutes’ walk away too so all of Budapest is easily accessible. The hotel is located on a hill so it is worth bearing that in mind, however from the metro station the 16a bus will take you up to the hotel, and you can also catch the same bus outside the hotel to take you up and around the castle district. Faust wine cellar (in the basement of the Hilton) is also less than 10 minutes away which makes for an enjoyable afternoon/evening wine tasting.
There is a restaurant on site which we ended up having dinner at twice as the food and service was so good. As a hotel guest you also get 15% off the bill which was another excellent incentive to eat their. Service was great, and there was a good selection of wine to choose from too. On the Friday night there was even a live singer which made our evening a bit more interesting.
Overall we had an excellent 3 nights stay and we will be recommending Hotel Castle Garden to any of our friends and family who happen to be travelling to Budapest.
