“Quiet location but very convenient to all the sights”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

We booked this hotel based on the great Trip Advisor reviews. It lived up to its billing. Very welcoming with professional desk service willing to make any arrangements needed. They helped with our train reservations, booking events, etc. The hotel itself is a renovated castle with a lot of nooks and crannies and a beautiful breakfast area.

Breakfast- wonderful with virtually anything you want. Lots of fresh fruit,, breads, pastries but also eggs, meats, etc.

Location- convenient to public transportation and very safe. Within a short distance of at least 30 sidewalk cafes. Very safe.

Room- unique and well appointed. Very quiet with the room overlooking the street, but the neighborhood was peaceful.

We stayed for four nights in July 2014 at this hotel (finding it on this site) and are so glad we did. The hotel was easy to find from the subway (I printed off a map and brought it from home) and we then figured out how close it was to a tram, and other metro stops. We purchased the 72-hour Metro Pass which gave us quick on-and-offs on all Budapest transportation (we used mostly trams and Metro).

The hotel is spotlessly clean, modern and comfortable, with perfect beds and pillows. We could set our A/C where we needed it to be comfortable at night and all of the physical parts of room worked very well (bathroom, shower, lighting, hotel safe, etc.) I like that they have a plug that will still give power even when the card isn't in the slot on the door, perfect for charging electronics while at breakfast. Be aware that the bathroom door is opaque glass, but not soundproof, the only iffy-part of this excellent hotel. It will not bother most tourists at all.

I can't say enough nice things about the staff. Let me start with the front desk: all were efficient without being brusque (an unfortunate coupling often found in Europe) and consistently went the extra mile in their service and in trying to help us. They obtained tickets for us to Parliament, ordered a taxi for the airport, and would have gotten other event tickets for us if we needed them, allowing us to charge these to our room. They made good recommendations for things to see and restaurants to go to (don't miss the one in the little square out front: Bistro Matryoshka). The breakfast room staff should all have a raise, as they were friendly (all spoke excellent English) AND cheerful, even in the very early hours.

The breakfast is amazing: a full hot/cold selection of everything I could ever want and then some things I wouldn't have thought of. I loved their freshly squeezed orange juice, their delicious scrambled eggs, the chocolate croissants and the fresh fruit. Everything there was also refilled quickly and kept clean. One afternoon we came home a little early, and the Hotel had refreshments in the bar just off the lobby, with some snacks and chilled water. That was nice to put up our feet and recharge our batteries.

I would definitely stay here again. . . and again. We were on the end of a longer trip for us, and it was nice to have Hotel Palazzo Zichy to be our home away from home for a few days.

Room Tip: We were in room 308 on the interior courtyards and it was nice and quiet, and had separate walk-in c...

We stayed at the Hotel Palazzo Zichy in May. From the moment we stepped into the hotel we were greeted by helpful friendly staff and happy to find our comfortable clean room after a very wet arrival in Budapest. The hotel manager Judit, who i unfortunately did not get to meet, had chosen for us, as promised, a perfect room to celebrate our anniversary along with complimentary fruit on arrival. The breakfast was a pleasure with a good choice of both cooked and cold foods. A bread and pastry selection which was very impressive and a very good coffee machine. To add to this, in the afternoons, you could help yourself to free refreshments in the lobby including drinks and some small snacks. Perfect after a long day out exploring the wonderful city.
The hotel is also ideally situated near to the Calvin Ter metro. My tip would be buy the metro pass (which also covers bus and tram). The metro system is fantastic and very easy to use. We travelled nearly every line in every direction i was very impressed. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel as a perfect base for your trip to Budapest.
Budapest is certainly a city to be revisited and without hesitation i would stay in Hotel Palazzo Zichy again.

Room Tip: Room overlooking the small square was nice & still very quiet with lovely view of church.

One of the best hotels that I have ever visited. I stayed here in July for 3 nights. They gave us a lovely room on the fifth floor, diagonally overlooking the Church. Check-in was smooth and very quick. Front desk staff is amongst the smartest and most professional I have come across. I am very impressed. Breakfast area was clean, nicely maintained and wonderful staff who always smiled and wished us at every opportunity. Hotel, too, was very clean. But the maid on our second day didn't vacuum the room. The bathroom was also very good and larger than European standards.

Service standards of this hotel was top rate. For instance, our room did not have a tea kettle. But when we asked for it, they sent one up in minutes. I never expected them to send me one as my experience says that if rooms don't have kettles, they don't send one up to our room. But this one did.

They have a lovely and well stocked-up bar at reception level where you can pick up tea bags, milk, sugar, etc and take them to your room. Or you can make tea / coffee there. You can also take as many water bottles as you like for free, though the tap water is good enough for drinking. And ofcourse, the bar serves drinks as well. The breakfast menu was very good. They take very good care of you.

The hotel's location is very good. There are nice restaurants nearby; do check out the Indian restaurant called Curry House, which was great. The restaurant is also very close to the central area where there is a metro station.

What a classy hotel this one was. Staff- breakfast room, front desk and concierge- was very well groomed. Loved Palazzo Zilchy.

Room Tip: Take a room on the higher floor. It's located in a street, so don't expect great views. But...

Very cosy and small hotel, very close to the city centre for those who are fed up with huge luxurious hotels :) Big hotels are usually very impersonal, but Palazzo Zichy, being quite small is exactly the opposite. The staff is very friendly and professional, always helpful and offers warm welcomes every time you arrive (coming there 2nd time in one month the receptionist even remembered me and welcomed very nicely :)).
The modern design in the rooms is very well connected with the historical building, although it`s a pity the only view you get is into the inner patio (with the breakfast restaurant downstairs). On the other hand you can be 100 % sure your sleep will not be disturbed by the nightlife noises while staying in Budapest.
Breakfast offers variety of high quality bits and pieces. Whether you`re into sweet breakfast or rather eggs and meat eater, you will be for sure satisfied.
The hotel doesn`t have a restaurant on their own, but they cooperate with one of the close by restaurantsand you can have your food delivered into the room - just order at the reception.
Hotel bar offers late night drinks or coffees and have special discount every day for a different drink :)
If you are looking for a very comfortable, quite place, which is still close to the city centre, then this could be the right place for you.
Btw, Szimpla kert is just about 10 mins walk from here :)

Stayed here in July with my girlfriend at the end of a three week trip across Europe, the luxury of the hotel was welcome!

We arrived off a night train a few hours prior to check in and weren't expecting to be able to check in, the reception staff were extremely helpful and despite not having a room ready for us they took our bags and arranged some breakfast despite the kitchen being closed. They then armed us with a map and gave us some ideas to kill the time before check in.

When we checked in we were really pleased with the room, spacious and plenty of storage. The air conditioning was excellent, it was a muggy 30 odd degrees for most of our stay but the room was really cool. The bed is really comfortable too, and the rooms were cleaned every day and towels and toiletries replaced if needed.

Breakfast was excellent, really relaxed and excellent food replaced constantly. Tables were cleaned immediately so we never had to wait for a table either, really attentive staff.

We used the reception to book a couple of tickets for the baths and a boat tour, would really recommend this as it costs the same as at the venue and saves the queuing. The staff all round were so helpful and friendly, they arranged a taxi back to the airport when we left at a really good rate.

The coffee in the lounge is great for when you're back from a day site seeing, seen some people moaning about no tea and coffee in the rooms but you walk past the bar on your way in so don't see why you can't grab a coffee, it's not far! At 5 the lounge area becomes a bar, really friendly bar man and excellent cocktails - worth a try!

The location is absolutely fine, not the best area of town sure but never felt anything but safe walking back at night. It's close to a main tram line and a metro station so everything is easily reached and the airport is a 25 minute taxi away, which the hotel can arrange for about £15.

On a side note - the hotel is opposite a Russian bistro, we would recommend the place for dinner. We had an excellent meal and vodka tasting with wine for a really reasonable price and the quality was excellent!

It's true the soundproofing isn't excellent in the rooms but we didn't have any real problems, and it's the kind of hotel that would happily move you if you had a noisy neighbour, I'm sure.

Highly recommend staying here! Great rooms, great staff and great breakfast! Thanks for a great stay!

Room Tip: Our room faced the inner glass roof, no views but also no street noise.
